What Did Portland Offer for Baby??

Ever since Marc Spears reported that Danny rejected an offer from Portland for a S&T for Baby (link: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AlAsu8KVJkskee6ccR7DFfO8vLYF?slug=mc-davisnets072009&prov=yhoo&type=lgns ), I've been wondering what the offer was. If you look at it from a financial point of view, there's only a couple of possibilities. It's reasonable to assume that Portland wanted to minimize any loss of salary cap space to save their cap for another deal(otherwise, they could just make Baby an offer). Since Baby is a base year player, his outgoing salary is counted only 50% for Boston. So, another Celt has to go with him. The best choice is Pruitt since his salary is unguaranteed and be cut by Portland with no effect on their cap space. As a minimum player, his outgoing salary is included in the calculations, but not his incoming making it perfect to use in a base year player deal.

Assuming Baby is looking for around a $4M deal at the minimum, there's  3 possibilities. Combined with Pruitt's $0.825M salary, Baby's new salary can be manipulated in the first year to make the numbers work for the CBA rules. The possibilities are:

1. Baby and Pruitt for Outlaw ($3.6M) - Baby's starting salary would have to be $4.0M at the minimum. Portland loses only $0.4M of cap space.

2. Baby and Pruitt for Blake ($4.0M). Baby's starting salary would have to be $4.7M at the minimum. Portland loses $0.7M cap space.

3. Baby and Pruitt for Martell Webster ($4.34M). Baby's minimum salary has to be $5.2M. Portland loses $0.86M cap space.

Roy and Oden's salaries could work, but there's no way they were offered. I think Pritchard offered Blake (and maybe a 2nd round pick sweetener) to the Celts. He could then sign Andre Miller and keep Bayless as a backup. If he offered Outlaw, Danny would have done the deal. They could have offered Webster, but he's coming off a major injury and too risky to give up Baby for and probably not worth it. I imagine Danny laughed at the Blake offer and said "call me back when Outlaw's available...." What do you think the offer was??

I'd love to have Outlaw - playing the SF and PF, he would fill a big void. Although there's been a lot of rumors about him, when you look at the Portland roster, they really need him. They have Webster at SF - he was out all year with a serious injury (I think a foot stress fracture) and it's not clear what he's going to be this year. Batum also has promise, but is he ready to be a starting SF on a playoff team? If they landed Turklou or Prince, Outlaw would have been expendable for PDX. But now, I think they want to keep him at least until they see what they have this year in Webster and Batum.

I think Batum is ready since Portland was a playoff team last year and he started.

I soured on Blake in the playoffs last year when he started jacking up ill-advised three pointers.

I think that Blake would be a satisfactory backup PG, but when you think you're paying $4M for this and only for one year (then he' s a free agent), giving up Baby would be too much of a price to pay.

I'm guessing it was lesser players for BBD. Ainge probably want Outlaw including in the deal, but Portland is reluctant to give him up. Now its  best to move on before we lose out. I'm assuming Marquis is option #2.

I would take Fernandez for BBD straight up. Good shooter, defender and dunker. But if they want to make nice and give up more, then sure. Throw in Outlaw and we'll give you Pruitt and Tony Allen and Scal if you want
