If this was truly sexual assault why didn't she report it to the cops instead of making a civil case out of it?....$$$$$$

see above, somthing like 40-50% of all rape and sexual assualt cases aren't reported until long after any kind of evidance can be taken from the victim, thus making criminal prosection extremly difficult, when it's even possable.

from what little we know, i tend to think this is pretty sketcy, but not because she didn't tell the cops right away. that's pretty much par for the course in a sexual assualt case.

There are also lower standards of proof in civil cases than in criminal (See Simpson, OJ).

Additionally, this suit is not just against Ben.  This is also against her employer (harrah's casino) and coworkers for defamation and others...

Apparently the woman's attorney is pretty good.

He has been an attorney for 39 years, serving as a prosecutor for 12 years and never losing a case (during the 12 year stretch)

And he was the 2007 Nevada Trial Lawyer of the Year

So Roethlisberger had his press conference today.

Here is the video:

While I dont think it really means anything, I thought it was interesting to compare his 'delivery' of the speech to Mike Vick's.  here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEGNxIuU1co

Not that either is necessarily indicative of the truth, or that the allegations or crimes are similar, but watched in a vacuum, Vick comes off 'better' (seems like the statement is his words rather than reading a script an attorney wrote)

And didnt Ben's seem a bit like this:

I took all of this (minus my thoughts) from PFT

Yall,  A real reach to associate Roethliesberger, based on an allegation, with Klichnev and Vick.

I was very careful ( I thought) to make it clear that wasnt what I was doing.

merely saying that Roethlisbergers seemed oddly fake.  he put emphasis on the wrong phrases, seemed to get 'angry' but at the wrong part of the speech etc...  his seemed like Clinton's.

Vick, on the other hand, seemed sorry and remorseful (but Vick, unlike Ben has actually been convicted of something).

I wasnt implying that one did something or not based on the speech, just an interesting (I thouhgt) comparison into their different deliveries of speeches.  Vick sounded honest, he didnt read a lawyer drafted statement.  he actually spoke from his heart.  The other two read what someone said.  interesting.  nothign more.

I concur.
I felt really awkward listening to him.

At first I thought she just wanted money, but after seeing him it looked like he was trying to hide something and he sounded really guilty.

Roethlisberger did sound off, but I cut him a lot of slack - imagine you have to stand in front of a bunch of media, with millions more watching, talking about a woman who is accusing you of essentially raping her.  Whether you did it or not, there's going to be a lot of emotions going through you, and not everyone's going to deal with it the same way.  It would be more surprising if he had been totally calm and collected about it.  I don't think his demeanor says anything about his guilt.
