Though it's just a rumour, the celticsblog twitter has been buzzing with a S+T involving TJ Ford. I thought this would be a great move as it would definitely fill up 2 needed spots, until I found out what we would need to give up.

Assuming Daniels will get paid 2 mill, the Pacers would be trading $10.5m in salary (Ford gets paid 8.5mill with a player option for the 10-11 season.)

That would mean at a minimum we would have to give up around $9.1 mill in salary

I can't see how this works unless we package TA, Scal and BBD or Tony, Scal, Eddy and projects

That I think would be too much to give up for a 8.5 mill player that doesn't play defense and will only play 10-15 minutes a game.

Again, just rumors, but the logistics don't make sense to me unless some third team is involved

I can't see it happening.  I do like Ford a lot, though.

I do like TJ, but I just can't see this happening due to the money and my belief that Ford wouldn't be content to taking a back up role to Rondo

We also have 1.6 mil in trade exemptions we can use but not sure if we can combine them in trades.

If this is true could this spell the end of dare I say Rajon Rondo in a future trade.   Ford would be a very expensive backup.

They can't be combined together or with players I believe.

I doubt the Pacers are looking to move Ford unless they really believe he is to injury prone (which he might be with his size and back issues)

Now if it was Tinsley, I could believe it, but would rather just use the LLE on Daniels.

Why do you want to pay that type of money for your back up PG who will play 12-15 minutes a game.

Id give up BBD Scal and Tony for Daniels and Ford in a heartbeat. Would not even have to think about that deal.

This is complete bogus. If Ford comes, he certainly won't be the backup guy, which means Rondo would have to be moved. And if Rondo is traded there, I would want Granger in return also, but then we'd have to free up space for him in trading Ray. Then it would already be a blockbuster deal, which is completely unlikely. Truth factor: 2%.

I would hate to see it as well.

I think a possible scenario from (managements standpoint) is to move Rondo for Tyreke Evans in Sacramento, use T.J. Ford as the stopgap PG temporarily, before using his contract as a trade piece when it is expiring.

It would be a huge move toward covering the Celtics future while covering bases in the near term if Danny and Doc decided to do it this season.

There is also some talk that Indiana wants Bill Walker included in any sign/trade deal. (from other threads) Is there any truth to this?

I think it would be much more likely that the deal would be for Diener, and not Ford.  I cannot see the C's being interested in spending that much money on a backup PG.

But Diener is making $1.7 million next year, and they may not want to pay him now that they have Watson aboard as the backup to Ford.  So a deal of Allen, Walker, and Pruitt (which has been rumored), would allow them to sign Daniels to a deal up to 3.3 million, and include him with Diener.  And the Celtics get a decent backup PG who can shoot a little, even if he can't defend.

Why would the Pacers give him away for nothing? He´s a good player when healthy, and his contract is expiring, IIRC. If there are really other players involved, it´s probably someone like Tinsley or Foster.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.
