Some of you guys don't realize that the Marbury we would see this year would be a different guy than we saw last year. He hadn't played ball in a while, he was out of shape, he didn't know how to play with our team, we threw him in the middle of things, plus he was just coming off the New York thing and he was probably scared us fans wouldn't accept him. Also he was trying to play more like Rondo and less like Starbury. Now that his confidence has increased and he would get to start over in a new season, i'm sure he would shoot a lot more of the open looks he got, and that would increase his FG%.
Why? It is not like we saw him improving during his time here. (which is what you would expect from rust)
No, he was pretty consistantly bad.
I'm willing to give a player of his caliber the benefit of the doubt. I'm not trying to be a Marbury apologist, but consider that he was out of playing ball for a full year. And right before that, he was out with an injury. He came to a championship club with an established chemistry and discipline, and was asked to jump right in.
I don't think he was 'consistently bad', despite what the numbers might say. He was solid, showed flashes of brilliance, and played much better team defense than he's been given credit for by the media and on this blog.
I would certainly welcome him back in a backup role, for the right price as others have said. He says all the right things, about realizing that Boston doesn't have a lot of money (or years) to invest in him, and that all he's looking for is a "fair deal".
The trouble is, his stubbornness gets in the way. He takes everything that doesn't go exactly his way as a personal attack, and is too outspoken for his own good, given his history/reputation (warranted or not). I wish he would just bite the bullet and come back for a year/two at the veteran's minimum, and try to get a ring to add to his already stellar basketball resume.
