Championship Bench vs Current Bench

07-08 Championship Team:

*start of the season

C - Scot Pollard
PF - Leon Powe
SF - James Posey
SG - Tony Allen
PG - Eddie House

09-10 Team:

C - Rasheed Wallace
PF - Glen Davis (maybe)
SF - Marquis Daniels
SG - Eddie House
PG - Gabe Pruitt

The starting 5 is the same for the both years so that is a wash.  Our bench so far is clearly better than when we won 66 games and went all the way. However, I do understand PJ Brown joined the team after the all star break, but for majority of the season we had Scot Pollard.  This team now still has the chance to add maybe one or two more proven players.  To quote Barstool Sports "Que the Duck Boats"

Couple of assumptions you're making that may not be correct.

For one, Gabe may not be our PG even with the current roster as is.

I think the team would be more inclined to use something like:

Rasheed
Davis
Giddens/Walker
Daniels
House

With Daniels helping with ball handling.

PJ and Cassel were both important pieces during the important part, the playoffs. 


Right now, I think the overall bench is better because Wallace is so much better then any player on the bench then.

I believe I said start of the season, thats why I didn't want people to bring up PJ Brown because he wasn't with us at the start.

I understand that, but the start of the season bench isn't important.  The playoff bench means everything.

The regular season isn't important? I'm not really sure but I think you have to make it into the playoffs first, I could be wrong though.

Yeah, our start of the season bench isn't what helped us win the championship...not really.  It was our playoff bench, and that had PJ Brown and Cassel.

Essentially I agree with you, though.  Our bench is already significantly better, and will definitely be a lot better as long as we retain BBD, get another backup PG besides Pruitt, and maybe sign a vet. minimum center like Swift, Oberto or what have you.

Wasn't Glen Davis part of the bench in '08?  He played some important games for us as a rookie.

If you think the bench is the difference between playoffs and no playoffs with this team, you haven't been paying attention.  



with that said, you said compare the current bench with the championship bench.  Well, the championship bench wasn't the bench at the begining of the season.  It was the one at the end.

Why is everyone teaming up on me, I don't get this? Can someone lock this topic that I created? I'm not feeling the personal attacks, thats not why I created this forum topic.  If I new i was going to be attacked I would not have created this, I'm sorry but it is going in a diffent direction than what I kinda planned.

To answer your question Bankshot, u r correct.  However, I feel maybe people believed at the start of the season Powe was rated higher than BBD (rookie), at the start.  You might have ranked him higher though, my bad.

Wallace might be better than any player on the bench back then, but I will be surprised if he contributes as much as Posey did! He was definitely the 1st guy to deserve the ring after the Big 3, I think his presence was even more crucial than Rondo's and Perk's! I watched Finals' Game 4 a few days ago and, man, he had hit a ton of "daggers", I mean daggers like "Ouch, this guy is really killing them"!! And his 1-on-1 & help defense was phenomenal all year long, he was the difference maker in that team... I hope Sheed can play this role this season, or even better, but Posey has put some very high standards!

Budweiser you are correct, you can certainly position the roster in a number of ways.  I just feel Eddie is more of a 2 and Pruitt is kind of our only real PG.

As for the point I agree that if you include Posey and PJ ,they set the bar pretty high. We have not replaced his defense; but we have replaced his shooting, added much needed size (this is where PJ was huge) and added youth (Daniels). Daniel's ball handling and consistency are key. He is a huge upgrade of Tony Allen especially when paired with House and Sheed's outside shooting.
