With Yao officialy on the shelf until at least the 2010 season, Danny must immediately move to trade for Battier.  Scal, TA and Walker for Battier works (I thrown in Walker because I can't imagine Houston would have any use for Pruitt).

Boston gets a better version of what they were looking for in Grant Hill and would be a resigned BBD and a backup PG from having the best roster in the league without damaging their longterm salary structure.

Houston loses another 7 million in salary in 2010.  If they don't resign McGrady, they'll be about 20+ milion under the cap and capable of bringing in one or two top stars with a returning Yao.

Get it done, Danny!

I'm quite sure that if Battier is available Danny is exploring how to get him here. I would guess he's quite high on the guy.

I've had a man crush on Battier for a while now. He plays great defense, hits big shots and is a class act off the court. I'd be exstatic if we could find a way to get him.

Garnett
Pierce
Allen
Rondo      =   Unstoppable
Perkins
Wallace
Battier

Like it or not, the price to get Shane Battier will include one of the players in perks-a-beast rotation.

Everyone in the league that dreams of contending would be all about Battier. I'm sure Houston could find better offers from a talent perspective. However, if financial relief for next summer is their objective, well then this gets it done..

That's not necessarily true. Scalabrine, Tony Allen, Bill Walker, and possibly a 2nd round pick could get it done and would save houston money for the summer of 2010.

I don't think we have enough to get Battier with guys that we would be willing to give up. They would be looking for an expiring + a good draft pick (~13-16 range) or a good young player - maybe a Gortat for Battier type deal could be worked out later this year. I think Battier will be available, but Houston wont give him away for nothing. The only chance we could have had is resigning Baby and then trading him later in the year, but Houston is stacked at the pf spot with Scola/Landry/Hayes/Dorsey.

Like perks-a-beast says, noncontending teams have no interest in Battier and Houston, if they make the trade, would clearly be doing it for salary cap reasons.  Out of the top teams, who would be able to offer a better deal than the Celts?

You have to factor in two concerns on Houston's side.

1.  Given Yao's injury history, how confident are they in building around him?

2.  Given McGrady's playoff history and expected salary demands when his deal expires after the coming season, will the Rockets push hard to resign him?

Both of those questions may nudge Houston into "blow it up and rebuild" mode, where offloading Battier for expiring deals is the logical choice.  Now, I wouldn't necessarily want Ainge to give up a 1st in a deal for Battier, and that might be something the Rockets demand.

Unfortuently, the Lakers could probably offer Farmar and Walton.

Without question they can get a better package for Battier. I can't see why they want to trade the guy anyway.

Ewwwwwww, who wants Walton's contract?

Again, Houston's objectives matter here. Salary relief or talent?

I don't think they'd have much use for either.  Walton is like Delonte West.  A great role player, but doesn't do anything spectacular enough to ever start for a championship team.  Farmer is good, but they've got a few good young guards already that they seem to like and Farmer is of the complete opposite type.
