ESPN reports Detroit out of BBD sweepstakes

It's believed that the Pistons, as of Thursday, have Rasho Nesterovic and Chris Wilcox ahead of Drew Gooden as their next free-agent targets, since it appears that they can't assemble an offer sheet rich enough for Glen Davis to keep the Boston Celtics from matching.

I think it is more and more likely that Boston either re-signs BBD soon. Th eonly team I see as a threat now is Portland, because Utah is going to match their offer on Millsap.

If Portland makes an offer, I think DA matches, then works a sign and trade for a Travis Outlaw.

I would think that Danny will hold off in signing him until Baby signs an offer sheet. I think this way he'll be able to explore sign and trade scenarios better.

The risk really comes in the 3rd year of the contract, in which Baby can get a significant raise, as if the first year hadn't been limited by this provision.

For example, they could offer him a contract of:

First year: 5.8 million (assuming this is the max they can offer)
Second year: 6 million (assuming this is the max they can raise, making the number up)
Third year: 14 million
Fourth year: 15 million

I seriously doubt they offer him that much. He really isn't worth it, but stranger things have happened.

We could still match. I also think DA waits until BBD signs an offer  sheet, then matches or explores S&T options.

Yeah, this is the route I really hope Danny takes.  From previous reports it seems he is at least trying for a sign and trade with Portland. 

Quick question, if no-one offers BBD a contract for fear that the Celts will match, what happens?  Does he go back to the celtics for the qualifying offer?

  It would have to be a multi-year deal. That means they'd be overpaying him for years just to keep us from matching. Plus it would take up most of their cap space. A sign and trade would leave them under the cap and make Baby millions cheaper over his contract.

Portland's gotta go after Odom...they hurt LA and make themselves better at the same time, it's just a no brainer for them to look into this.
