Per front page of CB (or see following: http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/extras/celtics_blog/)

Can someone who is clever with the math work out a S&T involving BBD and Travis Outlaw?  Cs may get their backup wing after all!

(but would then need to sign an additional big man)
Celtics fan for life.

If Portland goes after Baby it is because they lost out on Millsap which means they are significantly under the cap. I think this takes out the difficulty of the Base Year Compensation clause and allows for a good trade to happen without a lot of math involved.

Not keen on losing BBD but Outlaw would be a nice pickup.

BBD for Outlaw would be worth it.

Replace BBD with a min-contract big.

don't the blazers need Outlaw more than Davis? Outlaw plays the bulk of their SF minutes.

Meanwhile they have Aldridge playing the bulk of the minutes at PF. It seams like they could really use a killer 3/4.... say like Lamar Odom.

Well, they may want to get more minutes for Rudy and Batum, plus Webster may be coming back.  They seem to be dead set on finding a PF to back up Aldridge.

I think they're considering moving Aldridge. At the very least they want a capable back up in case they cannot extend him.

Plus, Davis could be the jumpshooting backup PF they wanted to compliment Odin with.  (After Frye bombed)

Doesn't Outlaw make around $3-4 million? So Baby and filler for Outlaw? Sign me up. Throw in a draft pick too if Portland wants.

I still don't why they are so keen on spending $$$$$. First thing is to lock up Brandon Roy & Lamarcus Aldridge long term. They need a cheap backup PF with room to grow, BBD is that guy. I'm still hoping he comes back.

If the Blazers want to sign Big Baby using their available cap space, they don't need to do a s+t with us. They can just sign him outright to a deal starting at 5M and we won't match. They would only be interested in such a deal if they use they cap space on a sf or pg and then need to fill their backup pf spot.

Without using the cap, a trade that could be made would be(I think I got this right, but it might be wrong): Big Baby s+t starting at 3.14M, Pruitt, Giddens for Outlaw. We give out 3.42M which is within 25% compared to 4M we are receiving for Outlaw. Portland receives 5M in salary and gives out Outlaw's 4M which is exactly within 25%. Portland can waive Pruitt as his contract is not guaranteed and we might have to reimburse the expense for them to waive Giddens.

If we lose Baby, Completing our roster would be difficult. Finding a replacement that can bring Big Baby qualities is impossible. Its easier if we just keep Baby, and just trade for SF once the JR/Bill experiment fails.

Like someone said though, if Portland wants BBD they can sign him to an offer sheet that we won't match. Then we'll be even weaker on the bench.
