Some Indy fans I have been talking to say he is very inconsistent. With that in mind and what I have seen last seasons I am sceptical. There is a risk we get Tony Allen v.2 here if we sign him.

I assure you that he is incomparably better than TA.  Not to say he isn't a bit of a loose canon sometimes, but his mistakes are the exception, with TA endless screw-ups are the rule.

My prior list of what we might trade for him was only meant to suggest the sort of assets a sign-and-trade might involve from our end.  If the market is $3.5, then we obviously only have to trade that amount.  TA and Walker would probably do it.  They lack a quick, defensive element on their team, and Walker has upside.

Their stats are somewhat comparable. P/40, R/40, A/40 are all near each others. The main difference however is that Tony shoots a little better and gets to the line more.

Daniels however has a much lower turnover rate and has a better size than Tony.

There is one problem however. Daniels has averaged just above 57 games per year. That's a lot of injuries that I'm not sure we should invest a sign and trade for.

He wants more $$$ than the LLE.  However, I got the feeling last year that for some reason Indy doesn't like him that much, even though he was totally key in keeping them semi-competitive at the end of last year.  He'd be great on the Cs.

Roy, would a sign-and-trade of Daniels (Hasn't his contract already expired, if that matters?) for TA and Veal and, say, Walker or a second-round draft pick work?  I really don't think Daniels is in their plans.

It would work but that's a lot to give up. We'd have to fill up the roster with what ends up to be bottom feeders and cost quite a lot.

Really, for a lot of people we just have to wait for waht the market sets for these players, which is so far around 3 million (Quinton Ross, Dahntay Jones, Anthony Parker, Grant Hill)

A lot to give up? Larry's going to laugh if you make him that offer for Daniels.

I meant it's a lot to give up on our end because it means having to sign 3 more people to fill roster spots, which while over the tax can be a lot.

By the way, Larry might not get to laugh. If Daniels indeed is in the market for 3.5 million, and Daniels wants to go to Boston, then a S+T is the best they can get out of it. I'm not saying it will happen, but the market for backup SF/SG's right now is just not that high

I don't know about him. He doesn't look too much different from TA. Per 36, he averaged 15.5/5.3/2.4/1.3 compared to 14.6/4.2/2.7/2.2 for TA. Both are horrible shooters. And looking at Daniels' splits for last season, there seems to be a significant difference in his play from when he starts to when he comes off the bench - similar to TA. In the 11 games that he came off the bench, he averaged 6.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists on 43% shooting in 19.5 minutes. And lastly, in 6 seasons he played over 70 games only once. So how is he an upgrade over TA?

Uh, I'll take my chances at filling those three roster spots. The ONLY loss out of that group that remotely would concern me is Scal, and I'd move him in the blink of an eye for any kind of quality behind Pierce who understands the game better than Tony Allen. And who doesn't?

I'm sure you wouldn't mind the roster spots, but assuming we get minimum salary guys (at around 900K), that would be 6 million dollars (with the tax) from 3 players we might not use. That's a lot to pay to upgrade to Daniels, a guy whose got similar stats to allen with a lower turnover rate.

if anyone wants to thank me....

For starting a thread about someone we hadn't talked about when we had actually done so?

I'm surprised that he would accept a 1.9 million contract though... I really wonder what other offers were out there.

That's a little harsh.

And people weren't talking much about Marquis... it was all Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, Moon, etc.  Marquis was often mentioned, but was never really talked about in depth on these boards or anywhere for that matter.

Lol, not being harsh... but you know, I'm not the one doing the "praise me" posts.

It's all cool. I also gave him a TP. Jesus, people here are so sensitive.

Again, I wasn't serious either... I could care less, just a friendly jab back that's all. Hate that CB is so formal and no one can jest with each other without people taking it the wrong way. And as I said, I had given you a TP.

To your credit, it's as you say, it was a dead topic for a couple of weeks. Seemed fresher in my mind.

But screw it, you called out the LLE when most thought it impossible.
