Detroit Free Press is reporting that Detroit is looking to clear additional cap space, and may be looking to deal Arron Afflalo to Denver.

http://www.freep.com/article/20090710/SPORTS03/90710069/1051/SPORTS03/Report--Pistons--Nuggets-work-on-deal-for-Arron-Afflalo

If this is true, I hope Danny makes a call to Joe Dumars. Afflalo is an up-and-coming defensive-minded combo guard. He'd be a great addition to the club.

A trade of Gabe Pruitt for Afflalo works in the trade checker. Pruitt's non-guaranteed deal would allow Detroit to clear the same amount of cap space a deal with Denver would.

Boston also has a trade exception large enough to take back the contract of Walter Sharpe, a young lean tweener forward (think Brandon Wallace). Detroit could clear a combined total of close to $1.8 million by dealing with Boston, who would net two young and athletic players at positions of need in exchange for very little.

I don't get it with Afflalo.  He seems alright and has okay numbers, but his PER numbers are very very low. (10 in his 1st season, 8 in his second).  But maybe he'd be a good pickup.  I'd want to get more back if we did a sign and trade involving BBD though.

Not another SG with "potential". I really hope Detroit isn't doing this to clear cap for Glen. The only obstacle when it comes to re-signing Glen.

There's some speculation that one of the players Dumars would target with his cap space is BBD.  Therefore, I can see why Danny wouldn't want to help him out.

If in a sign and trade we could send Baby and some expirings to Detroit for either Prince or Rip, I'd do that. Otherwise, I don't like the Detroit roster as a trading partner for things we need or want here.

I hate PER and Hollinger. Never use PER as a method of evaluating talent, its an incredibly faulty system

Afflalo is not a project. He's already an NBA rotation-worthy player.

I don't see Detroit going after Davis--because they have Maxiell--but I agree that we don't necessarily want to help a team sign away one of our RFAs. That said, if Detroit wanted to explore a possible sign and trade of Baby for Maxiell, I'd be all over that.

Looks like Afflalo is most likely going to Denver, probably to fix the loss of Dahntay Jones

Detroit traded Arron Afflalo(notes) and Walter Sharpe(notes) to Denver for a future second-round pick, a move that creates another $1.8 million in salary cap space for the Pistons, a league source said Monday...Here is the link http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-pistonstrade071309&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Affalo is a good pickup for Denver here.

How much cap room does Detroit have right now? I wonder if they're trying to sign someone outright, or maneuvering for an uneven trade.

Well, it's official: Afflalo and Sharpe are going to Denver.

We'll see if Detroit makes an offer to Davis.
