Great move for Denver (they basically gave nothing and received two good backup players in exchange). I hope Detroit isn't trying to go after Big Baby with the cap space, though. I just can't see Utah giving them Boozer for Hamilton because of Rip's long contract so hopefully it involves Utah and not Big Baby.

Well, with the extra cap room, Detroit could offer to take back some extra payroll from Utah to make a Boozer trade work. That could lower Utah's tax burden enough to allow them to match Portland's offer to Milsap.

That's a great thing to say, but the problem is, Utah doesn't have a ton of terrible contracts that they would want to get rid of.  There just are not many deals that make sense that would save Utah a lot of money, while taking on Rip's contract.

This is true. Harpring's is really the only one.

Ya Detriot has gotta do something with Rip because Gordon wont be a backup not when ur paying him 55 mill for 5 years and I seriousy Doubt Rip wants to come off the bench he was upset about it last year when he backed up Iverson for awile.

Yeah, if they could make that work, it could make sense, but based on the present projections of only $3.5 million in cap space, it wouldn't work.  I really think this is for Boozer, if it is for a trade.

The whole key for the Jazz is they want salary relief this year for Boozer, so they can reduce their lux tax burden after signing millsap. So all the Rip ideas and bogus (floated by Detriot) Prince rumors are bunk. Had they done the Portland deal, it would have been to get Ty Thomas and unguaranteed contracts. If they do a deal with Detriot, it will be to get that 3.5mil in empty cap space back from detriot along with guys they can try to buy out (i.e. kwame) and a pick or two. They're looking for the best possible deal with either cap space, unguaranteed deals, or both.

Thanks for the insight, I didn't know that!

I'm feeling a little bit better about Big Baby, I think Dumars really wants Boozer, so he won't offer a big contract to Davis, unless the trade with Utah doesn't work.

I'm waiting for the official numbers on the Gordon and Villanueva signings.

But I think there may be a way that Detroit could offer to take back Matt Harpring along with Boozer in return for Rip. That might be enough payroll reduction for Utah to keep Milsap.

That would be a heckuva trade for Detroit. Harpring would fit in well there too.

I've heard Harpring might be retiring.

If Matt Harpring heard you say that, he'd give you a hard strong elbow while he was pretending to get a rebound then act like he didn't know why you are mad.

I think any way you look at this this is just going to be a precursor to Utah's deals to keep Millsap, move Boozer and for the Pistons to move Rip. I don't know what teams are going to be involved besides Utah and Detroit, maybe none other than them, but I'm expecting some big trade to go down before the 7 day time frame for Utah to match the Millsap offer is done.

I think those moves are then going to effect Portland and Odom as Odom may use Portland to get the money from LA that he wants. I also think Boozer being traded is going to effect baby as well as it takes yet another team looking for inside help off the market.
