If they get BBD for around 4 mill (similar to Bass), I would like to see them sign Udoka and Oberto for one year contracts and have them traded. It would fix our depth issues.

Sign Udoka and Oberto and then trade them? I don't think I understand you on this one. Why would we trade them?

Are you talking about trading the end of our current bench?

I meant if the Spurs retain Udoka and Oberto, we could S+T BBD for the 2 of them (assuming BBD gets the same contract as Bass, it would work)

They already traded Oberto. They can't offer Oberto anything that we can't contract-wise.

Only way we take back James Posey for 3 years is if we get more than the salary dump.  Maybe toss in JR Giddens and Bill Walker FOR Julian Wright?

If we get Julian Wright it'd be worth it to accept taking on a few years of Posey or Mo Pete at an inflated salary

I like what I'm reading about Julian Wright:

""Julian Wright has been mistake-prone and slow to adjust to Coach Byron Scott's demands the past two seasons, but he appears driven to improve this upcoming season. When the Hornets begin play this fall, Wright said he wants to be counted on to average at least eight points and four rebounds per game -- both of which would be career-highs. Instead of waiting for training camp, Wright wants to make an impact as a member on the Hornets' summer league team. Starting Sunday against the Spurs, the Hornets will play a five-game schedule that will extend for nine days in Las Vegas. Joining Wright on the team are first-round draft pick Darren Collison and second-round selection Marcus Thornton. 'I want to be counted on in certain areas and provide certain stats,' Wright said. 'I want to be productive in terms of just playing aggressive. I can't be passive. I have to look for shots more.' "

the problem is because he acted like he was interested in boston...the C's lost time going after legit targets like parker...hopefully now they can find a wing

how do u know he "acted".  he may have legitimately been interested.  in the end, he made the best choice for him, according to he and his family.  im disappointed, but i dont resent the guy
I'll be at the garden waiting for the day we play the Suns to help fill the arena with Boos, and have my beer cup half empty to toss at him from the other end.

If it's a sign and trade coming into the Celtics with expiring deals going out that means the player has to be around a mid level exemption guy or higher. So who is out there that fits that bill that the C's might want?

Linas Kleiza
Hakim Warrick
Jamario Moon
David Lee
Matt Barnes
Andre Miller
Allen Iverson

Is there anyone else? The only guys I could see Celtic interest there who's teams might want expiring deals are Kleiza and Moon. Memphis I think wants to keep Warrick and I doubt New York would take our expiring garbage for Lee. I seriously doubt Barnes wants to come here or that AI or Miller would accept lesser roles for hardware.

Danny must be talking sign and trade with Baby.

I agree the BBD S&T is most likely (but you forgot my favorite: Childress!).
Any guesses about who the S&T would be for? I can only see Danny doing a S&T if it got a decent backup wing in return.  A few people posted ideas involving NO a few days back -- with J. Wright and Devin Brown coming back for Boston.

sign and trade with baby means we have to get a wing and a PF back out of the deal...losing baby dents the bigs on our bench

Maybe Detroit with some expiring deals headed out(Eddie House, Scal) with Davis and we get back Rip Hamilton or Tayshaun Prince??

I would do something like that and considering the garbage that Dumars has signed this off season, maybe he's dumb enough to do something like that after all.

I'm torn on this.  I think that a S&T with Big Baby is realistic for a good backup wing.  It definitely does mean we have to find a 4th big, but I think finding a 4th big will be easier (and cheaper) than finding a backup 3.  I think if there is a way we can get a good backup 3 with big baby, we have to do it.  (note, i said 'good' backup wing).  I don't think i'd want to risk losing a productive big off the bench for just some journeyman backup 3

Not necessarily...there are backup bigs out there we could offer the LLE that perhaps aren't quite as good as Baby but would be just fine for the 10-15 minutes that we'd ask them to play.  Quite good, in fact.

Think of it this way. If we go to an 8 man rotation in the second half of a playoff game, who do we play:

Rondo
Ray
P
KG
Perk
Sheed
House
?

If BBD is that ?, Ray and P play way to many minutes. What if P gets into foul trouble? Scal? Perhaps.

We are better off getting a legit 8th man SF and a minimum contract big, since we don't have anyone we can trust to backup PP. We clearly need another big to eat minutes, but we will benefit more by investing more in the backup SF.
