I thought that Childress elected to go to Greece because he could not get a good enough offer last year; that ATL held right of first refusal.  I also thought he would become an unrestricted free agent this summer.  True? If so, I would love to get him on our team. He would be perfect for the back up 2/3 position.

Just learned he is still a restricted FA. We would have to do a sign and trade deal, because ATL would match the full MLE exception or below.  Childress apparently has made clear he does not want to return to ATL.  Man, would I love to get him here.  What a great fit for us.

No, until the Hawks renounce him -- which they'd only have to do if they were trying to clear more cap room to sign another team's free agent --- he remains a restricted FA.

I read where he was talking to another team who might make an offer. ATL could then match, but I think they'll wait until another team does something.

Thanks. I think he was talking to Milwaukee.  He has until 7/15 to opt out of his contract with Greece, from what I understand.

  • Rondo = Good
We don't have the money to get Childress.  The only realistic scenario would be a sign and trade, but I can't imagine Atlanta (or any other team under the cap) would be interested in BBD + our junk.
