If Channing Frye ended up getting less than 3 million over 2 years, we absolutely have a chance to steal Hakim Warrick away from the Griz.  His jaw would drop at a 4yr/11 million deal right now.  That would only cost us an additional 2-3 mil per year in luxery tax.

For a player entering his prime who can backup both 3 and 4, with the length to be a great defender in our system -- this has to be considered.  I think I'd even rather have Warrick than trading for Nocioni, especially for the bargain price he can be had for.  The guy is built for our system.

We don't have the resources to make that offer, having used the MLE on Sheed.

Warrick would have to agree to the LLE (roughly $2 mil a year).

Sure we do.  The Celtics make dump trucks of revenue each year.  It would just cost us a bit in luxery money.

If the Lakers can drop an extra 8-9 mil on Lamar Odom while already being over the cap, we can drop an extra 2-3 mil on Hakim Warick.
New to the NBA payroll rules?

The Lakers can offer that money to Odom because they would be re-signing him.

Warrick was not on our team last year. We can only offer him the LLE or a minimum contract, since we have already used the MLE as already mentioned by someone else. Odom's situation in LA is completely irrelevant.

A trade might be the best option at this point..

I'd take him since no one's better but he's overrated. Not a great shooter, not too athletic, decent on d. That's about it.

Barnes, Bogans, Udoka, Carney, Szczerbiak, Herrmann (although he's a bit redundant with Scal), Bowen, Stackhouse all offer something better than TA, Walker and Giddens.

I'd be satisfied with any of them.

He's been healthy over the past couple seasons, shoots lights out, and surprisingly played decent defense on Ray Allen.  :-\

He seams like an upgrade over our 2/3 projects. Barnes, Bogans, Udoka, Carney would be higher on my wish list of course, though.  :)

i just think wally cant defend a chair. did you see him throw up 2 airballs vs orlando in game 6?? he was awful...i would rather give that spot and PT to walker...wally's first stint in boston was enough...wonder if KG wants to be reunited with wally?

I was hoping we would go after Barnes last year. He could be a real energy guy for us coming off the bench!

look at Wally's stats, watch a game with him playing. Wally's slowness and defense aren't as bad as people say, its just that he's so talked about.

http://www.82games.com/0809/08CLE5.HTM

While Wally was playing the SF, and guarding the SF his defensive rating of 92.1, When guarding (the quicker) 2Guards his rating only went up to 93.5. (lower is better with defensive rating)

(For example Paul Pierce's DRating against SF is 91.5, while his 2Guard rating is 97.9 and worse than Wally's)

After all that Wally's rating against PG's is 109.9, not that has any effect on anything.

Wally is also one of the most efficient 3PT shooters ever... so...

James Posey's rating against SF's is 92... same as Szerbiak. I know that doesn't show everything but Wally isn't as horrible as people say.

living in ohio..the cavs were on every night. I watched wally get 10 points in the first half only to not make a shot the rest of the game. i watched him get beat by SF over and over. by the end of the season and playoffs he wasnt even in the cavs rotation...how much can he give boston? we have been down this road with wally before..he is a great guy in the lockerroom when things are going good but has a tendency to be standoffish and moody if they arent. with all the personalities boston already has..i cant see him fitting in.

I'd rather Wally than Matt Barnes. Barnes isn't our type of player, as its been said before, he fits better in a D'Antoni or Don Nelson system with a run and gun attitude.

If Wally's roll is to hit corner three's, and stay in front of his man, he can succeed. Look at Eddie House.

Was going to make the same comment about defense on Ray.

Everytime we play against Wally, we all want Ray to take advantage of the matchup, but he isn't able to. Perhaps we underestimate Wally.

interesting about wally...it is the staying in front of his man that worries me...i know he can shoot...but can he still defend the way the Cs need him to? and i dont think wally comes for a LLE..i think he will expect more money than boston wants to pay

I don't get why nobody talks about Joey Graham? If you take him off of a crappy Raptors team, he'd be a great back-up at the 3, and would upgrade the bench. There's also no way the Celts should let Giddens go. He should be the primary back-up at the 2.
