CELTS PASS ON MARBURY

Stephon Marbury told The Post last night he won't be returning to the Celtics and is eyeing Europe stronger than ever.

KNICKS BLOG

Marbury, 32, has been talking to teams in three different European countries, including Italy, the past few weeks and is growing more intrigued if a strong NBA offer does not come along soon.

The Celtics have told Marbury they are not going to re-sign him after netting Rasheed Wallace. Marbury has been using Players Association attorney Hal Biagas as his agent.

"If I have to give it overseas, I'll give it overseas," Marbury said. "I like the Europe option to bring the Starbury [sneaker] brand there and sponsor soccer players."

As far as his NBA future, Marbury said he realizes he's not in solid bargaining position because of how little he's played recently. He joined Boston in late February after sitting out the entire season in a dispute with the Knicks.

"The Knicks put me in a really bad situation, a really bad spot, so I'm still waiting," Marbury said. "Teams are still shopping."

[dang] (excuse my language) I REALLY WANTED TO RESIGN MARBURY FOR THE  LEAGUE MINIMUM (1.5 million).

To be honest, I think what he wants is minutes more than money, and there are very few teams right now looking for a starting PG who'd want to gamble on marbury.

Europe's a good option for him.

Yea, i don't think steph would have been happy here in a 10 minute a night backup role for a full season.

Good luck to him, i hope he finds a team where he can get more minutes and have a greater impact. He was nothing but a good solider here, i wish him the best.

Given the plethora of point guards in this past draft; and Marbury's mediocre play in the last three months of the season, I can understand him not getting the attention he would like.  I'm also not surprised the Cs would pass on him.

Marbury & Iverson just needs to swallow their own personal pride & sign with a CONTENDER for the vet minimum. It discuss me how they would rather play for a cheap lottery team while making 3mil dollars more a season, when they have already made more the 100 & in Iverson's case 200 mil. in their careers already. It is just a selfish way to go out in their careers being life long losers who only cares about money that they are already rich with. Marbury re-think your strategy brother & do the right thing. Your still have time to ressurect your image here in Boston by winning with proven winners.

It has nothing to do with Money for either Marbury or Iverson.

It's obviously about the role they would play. Being a 10 minute provider to a championship team doesn't mean as much to some as it does to others. Especially guys like Iverson and Marbury who have been touted like crazy since they were in their early teens.

Marbury is working hard to get his business back on it's feet after Steve & Barrys cashed out. He does not a new shoe called the "Comeback" coming soon that I fully intend to buy.

The report that the Celtics don't want him is not true. Link:

Meanwhile, Stephon Marbury said he will likely not return to the Celtics after being offered the veterans’ minimum of $1.3 million.

So now he's playing it like we never offered him a contract? He probably interprets it as if our offer was not worthy and that we want to show him that we don't want him. But we do, just at the minimum and 10 minutes per night. But obviously he doesn't want that.

And he said 2 years ago that once his contract with the Knicks is up, he will go to Italy. So good luck with the money and minutes there, too bad you don't want to win a ring this season.

I think in both cases, a lot of it is about minutes and not money, and there's just very little minutes to go around in the league.

Marc Berman.

New York Post.

If you don't understand why I am saying this, then there is no hope. Check his blog, he literally has at least 1 Marbury article per week as requested by his editor. Which results in quotes taken out of context, conflicting reports, speculation. Like the whole Wizards thing. It started with Marc Berman, he just pulled it out of his ass.

And I am sure what the article title means, is that now that the Celtics have used the full MLE on Sheed, they are no longer going to continue talks with him because they need the LLE to go after Hill or another backup SG/SF.

Or maybe it means that the Celts will give the veterans minimum to Grant Hill and still give the League Minimum to Marbury lol hoping.

The veteran's minimum and the league minimum are the same thing.  The minimum salary for an individual player is based upon their number of years in the league.

I think the Celtics are really want to make something out of Pruitt. If not Hudson.

But if we give the Vet minimum to Hill, there is no money for Marbury.

why would you insult the better player with the weaker offer?
