- Will be 35 in September.
- According to Hoopshype.com, we signed him for three years.
- He'll get the mid-level this year (5.8mil), 6.3mil in 2010/11 and 6.7mil in 2011/2012.

Didn't Danny just screwed our future flexibility (the reason he let Posey go)?
Or is Sheed's contract just a reflex of our win-now mode?

I don't think we overpaid. I think Danny made a mistake in not re-signing Posey last year. That said, if we have the option of getting both players for the same price, I go with Sheed every time. And if we can fill the void behind Pierce, then perfectly done Danny.

I think Danny gave Rasheed the contract he needed to to get him here.  I don't think it's overpaying; most of the quality players are going to get the MLE.

As for Posey, I think it's apples and oranges.  True big men tend to be more valuable.  I was surprised that the Celts apparently gave him a third year, but if that was the asking price, I support the deal.

I agree. The Posey decision was clearly a mistake, compounded by the wasted savings on players like Allen.

You do what you have to do to put together a quality roster if you're serious about a title. I support the move.

Rasheed Wallace has an expiration date, like a carton of milk.  He plays strong and motivated for a while, then it kind of ebbs away.  I think we've got two years.

But, having him signed for three is fine.  If we don't want or need him around he'll be an expiring contract in two years.

Yeah, I look it as Posey was a $5.8 million player, making $5.8 million, and will likely be a $2 million player in 2011, making $7 million.

Sheed on the other hand is a $10 million player, now making $5.8 million, even if in 3 years, he is a $3 million player making $7 million, it makes it much more worth it this year.

Posey was a nice player who was a good role player on a champion team.  Rasheed can be an impact player on a champion team.  They are totally different.  and as mentioned, centers are a lot harder to find then 3/4 types

So wait... this was a 3-year deal? Maybe a team option on the third? Any confirmation out there?

Sideshow Bob was signed for about $8M a year, so... hard to argue that Rasheed's contract is a bad one...

Let's not forget that at 37 years of age, if the C's win back to back titles, with three titles under his belt and his financial security and basketball legacy set, Wallace could walk away from the option making this a very nice two year deal.

Chances of a player leaving $7 million on the table are slim, but stranger things have happened and Wallace has never been considered a predictable person.

I'm glad he didn't let this get in the way like he did with Posey.  Danny's had done his job, putting us in position to win the next two years.  Also for each of the next three years we will have a lot of money coming off the books and be able to get younger big names to come in and keep this new winning tradition going.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

Yeah that'd be prtty scary. But I imagine we'd land McDyess then. But he got a 3 year deal too, I think that was just what the market was paying for veteran big men this year.

I'm not too worried about the third year. Now if management suddenly won't sign anyone next year or the year after that to improve the team I'll be angry.

I don't know, did we overpaid?

Seriously though, the third year might be the icing on the cake from both sides, seeing as it gives Rasheed and his family the comfort of a final contract for his career, and ownership the option to bail out if needed.

I think the player option/third year had to happen to sweeten the deal.
