He Is my least favorite player behind Joakim Noah.

It makes me angry that he is making so much money. But it makes me happy that the Cavs have him for 6 more years and that they are giving him like $8.5 mil a year to flop around on the floor

He's your least favorite? Mine is still Sasha Vujacic. Man I hate that dude.
Carl: And, technically, he's supposed to be spayed, and uh, he ain't that. I know that first hand. Go ahead, ask me how I know. Go ahead. Ask me. Ask me how I know.

That is one of the worst examples of bidding against yourself I've ever seen.
according to numerous reports the cavs had a number of sign and trade offers that would have paid Varejao 10 or 11 million a season.  There was apparently a pretty strong market for him behind the scenes.  I'm a bit surprised they signed him that long and big, but with the cap supposedly going so low, the Cavs were only going to have enough room for bringing in one max player anyway, and they still have that room so it isn't that surprising.

I think you should switch Parker and Wally for positions.  Doesn't AP usually play SG?

Yeah but except for Shaq and AV they are a small or perimeter based team. If Shaq and/or Z get hurt come playoff time, they are very easily dispatched in the playoffs by either Orlando or Boston as far as I am concerned.

Dan Fegan hustled Danny Ferry for this contract. He somehow convinced him of the following:

"Varejao had interest from several teams, including the Portland Trail Blazers and Oklahoma City Thunder, and other potential sign-and-trade offers from other teams without salary-cap space. Fegan said several teams were willing to offer Varejao contracts that averaged $10 million per season."

From the Cleveland Plain Dealer http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2009/07/anderson_varejao_agrees_to_6ye.html

What team would give this man 10 million a year?? Seriously, not even Chris Wallace would do that.

EDIT: Check out some of the comments from mostly Cav fans on there. They seem to be pretty upset about this signing.

What's weird is not only is Wally undersized at the 4, though he is scrappy, he doesn't even have the speed to chase around Rasheed Wallace.

So though you have a scrappy put back / Orebound guy, you don't have someone who has the size to guard large bigs or fast enough to guard smaller bigs.

This is all gonna look even better if Lebron leaves

That's funny because reports out of OKC is that the Thunder are standing pat and going to wait until next year while they give time for the youngsters to grow and that Portland has been linked to Millsap ever since Hedo told them to take a hike.  Danny Ferry must have been seriously snowed by this agent.

Do you really think there is another team out there that would've offered him 10 million dollars? When there wasn't a single team that would do that for Boozer? The only team that would offer AV 10 million per did it.

I like how they have passed on deal after deal in order to maintain fiscal flexibility for 2010 and then they just flushed it for a player they will never run a play for ever
True, but they also had to look at the league's prediction of a shrinking cap. If that comes true then their plans for two max FAs were impossible anyways.

I was thinking the same thing, but if that is the case, then they should have been going much harder after the top FAs and offering more years and more money to get them.

they definitely are going to have to look back at the decision to not use Wally's expiring contract during the season. I believe that was another decision based on trying to have money for two max contracts...

that said, I guess it is a bit of a surprise how much the cap might drop.
That was a huge mistake. They should have traded for Vince or Jefferson when they had the chance.

I am skeptical about those reports. If the annual salary was that high I doubt it was for as long term. Maybe 3 years and 33 mil?

People won't even offer Milsap / David Lee that kind of money, and both are in my opinion (hell, even objectively) much better than Varejao
