I would of loved to see parker here, I'd rather him than Hill!

Compare Parker and Hill's stats.  The only thing Parker has going for him is he's potentially less likely to get injured.
Parker avg one more ast and one less point. Parker was 10% in 3pt land and 3% higher from the line..........I would rather have the younger Parker based on stats!

Would Parker have signed for less than $2 million, though?  That's what will be interesting to see, in my opinion.
Probably not, but what is one or two million more at this point , we are already over the cap and into the luxury . Would it be worth it to pay Parker  say 3 mil which would be 6 mil if he is gonna help us more?
I really don't know. I do know that I wish the cap was higher!

We couldn't have offered Parker more than $2 million.

Since we're over the cap, we basically have salary "slots" (called "exceptions") to offer free agents.

The first is the "MLE" (mid-level exception).  This was for around $5.8 million, and we had to spend all of it on one play, Rasheed Wallace.

The second is the "LLE" (bi-annual exception).  This is for $1.99 million.

The third is the minimum salary, which ranges from around $450k to $1.5 million, depending upon service time.

As such, once we used our MLE, we only had the LLE left to offer Parker.  We couldn't have given him more if we'd wanted to (unless we worked out some wacky sign-and-trade).
So what did Wyc mean when he said he was willing to pay the luxury tax for the right player? I'm confused.

I think "the right player" was Rasheed.  He's costing the team $5.8 million in salary, plus $5.8 million in luxury tax, because our team payroll is above the luxury tax "threshold" (around $70 million).

Yeah, they very well could have not used the MLE this year, not signed 'Sheed because of how much money it would have cost them due to the tax.  But, that's a management decision that's separate from the rules governing what contracts we are ALLOWED to offer.  We used the mid-level exemption, so now we can use the lower-level exemption (around $1.9M) OR sign guys at the veteran minimum, OR arrange sign-and-trades if feasible.

Parker averaged almost 2 points fewer in more minutes played.  Hill is also a significantly better rebounder - he averaged 5 rebounds a game, and was almost at the same amount of assists per game.

Hill doesn't hit the 3 as well as Parker, but we already have plenty of 3 point shooting on our bench.  Also, Hill had 10% better field goal percentage and 6% higher true shooting percentage than Parker.  By the numbers, Hill is a significantly better shooter than Anthony Parker.

Also, from a PER perspective there is no comparison.  Hill has been over 15 PER for the last six years of his career, whereas Anthony Parker was around 12 PER last year and has not been above 14.5 in the last 3 seasons.

Hill is also 2 inches taller.

That would definitely be a blow.

Parker is okay, but I don't think he's going to shift the balance of power.  If we sign Grant Hill, I think things even out.

The thing that would hurt is if we don't wind up with a competent backup 3, much like last season.

Yeah, I think the only blow is that Parker would not be joining the C's.  I don't think he significantly improves the Cavs, but he would have made a big difference in Boston, if they lose out on Hill.

Parker makes Cleveland better...but not THAT much better.

Parker isn't that much better than Wally Szczerbiak, actually.  He probably has about as much talent as Wally and Sasha combined at this point.  So yeah, it's a blow to us in that Parker is no longer an option for us, but it's not going to make the Cavs noticeably better.  They really needed Marion, Ariza, or Artest to improve considerably.

The real problem for us is if we don't sign Grant Hill.

Then we're really stuck with Bogans, Barnes, Jones, or possibly Daniels.  Either that or make a trade for some wing guys from a team in dire financial straights like the Kings (Garcia / Nocioni) or the Hornets (Wright / Peterson).
thank u for remember me theres a light at the end of the tunnel

They have the same exemptions that the Cs have.
My guess is they used a sig portion of the MLE to sign Parker (unless there was another signing I am forgetting?)
Varejao was extended and Shaq was acquired via trade.

Bucher

RicBucherCavs fans, you got your athletic wingman. They're close to a deal w/Anthony Parker. Two yrs, under $6 mill.

We are running out of options to PP's backup.

Thats a v reasonable contract too, Darn!

"athletic wingman"

Not really...basically the Cavs lost Wally and Sasha and got a player in the off-season who can make about as much impact as both of them combined.  In other words, this doesn't make the Cavs any better.
