Am I the only person that thinks this guy can bring energy, 3pt shooting, and some decent defense? The guy is 6'7", 29 years old, and definitely a better option than Giddens or Walker at this point. I'm thinking give him the LLE, and trade Scal, Pruitt, Tony, and possibly Giddens for a backup PG, and future pick?

I definitely want Hill or even Posey back, but we cannot wait for them. Make him an offer of the LLE and see what happens.

Hill out played him on the Suns team last year.

This is a guy that teams with play styles he fits (small and running) don't really worry about keeping.

On the Celtics, he is just another small PF/slow SF.

yea, if you are getting outplayed by a 37 year old in your prime, you've got some problems

I'd offer him a minimum contract if Hill says no but I'm not sure he'd want another minimum deal. This would have to be revisited in a couple of months if nobody's given him anything.
Go Celtics.

For that reason I can see why we are passing. His best strength is uptempo small ball at the 4. With KG and Wallace, he will NEVER sniff minutes at the 4.

We need a 3/2 more than a 3/4, now that we have wallace.

Not to mention I don't think he could beat out Scali for that job on the Celtics.

I want him, but I doubt that means anything.

There's going to be a few guys like this who no one throws any money at and can be had cheap if we just wait around. If he's still around for cheap I'd pick him up. Kind of a tweener and only fits in on the right system.

See, everyone wants him as a 3/4. I want him to be the primary backup for Pierce, and get no minutes at the 4 unless we are playing VERY small ball. He can create his own shot which is needed for the bench, and has a ton of energy. He's the type of guy, that no matter what you ask of him, he will try to do his best at it.

Plus he is WAYYYYY more secure of a pickup than, Grant "2 healthy years and counting" Hill. Especially at the age of 37. Just saying. No one wants Barnes, but if we end up with another BUM wing player, you guys would be saying "why didnt danny go after him"...

we'll see..

When did Barnes start playing "decent defense".  He's been a defensive tweener his whole career.  Not big enough to defend a 4 and not quick enough to defend a 3.   He's usable as a backup SF, but this is not exactly Trevor Ariza we are talking about.

That is the sounds a nail being hit atop the head, TP.

I think Barnes would be a great fit in green; he has the length, veteran defensive savvy, and floor-spreading 3pt ability to be Paul Pierce's full time backup (and not for just one year).

And wasn't he the primary defender on Dirk when GS upset Dallas a couple years back?  Not sure why so many here are knocking his D.  He always seems brings great energy.

There is nothing wrong with Grant Hill, but if NY is going to give Hill 1yr/5 mil or 3yr/10 mil, essentially we are out of the bidding.  Of all the other SF's on the market (in our price range), Matt Barnes is the guy I want.  I'm sure he'd be happy with the same contract we gave House to come play here.

Right on ... Matt Barnes is a lousy defender

I don't get this Matt Barnes talk. He is an okay player, but not much more.

He drew the primary defensive responsibility on Dirk when GS pulled the infamous 8 over 1 upset.  That was when Dirk was in his absolute prime.  Individually he is an above average defender, despite playing for teams with poor defensive systems (PHX, GS).

Barnes actually matches up better against the likes of Rashard Lewis and even Lebron James than pretty much every other SF on the FA market right now.

Who'd you rather have that is in our price range?
