If my math is right, that's ten million a season. How is Bargs worth that much to any team? I think he averaged around 15PPG this season, but he still can't rebound or play defense at all. This type of stuff makes me appreciate Perkins all that much more.

Canadian tax. No one wants to play for the Raptors, so they have to pay more.

Maybe so, but still... Ten million a year for Bargnani? Why not just give him the Qualifying Offer then let other teams offer him money? Cause no one in their right mind would offer him that.

I guess they're determined to lose Bosh.

I think Bargnani would have cost them more next year. A 20ppg jump shooting seven footer? Someone would have paid him big bucks. They'd have been wrong to do so, but someone would have.

That said, it's a terrible contract, one of the worst in the NBA. Big mistake.

It locks the Raptors into a core of Chris Bosh, Andrea Bargnani, Hedo Turkoglu and Jose Calderon too ... and that's what? A borderline playoff team? Bad situation up there in Toronto.

When you consider cost of living, total tax payout, and exchange rate ... living in Ontario is not nearly as bad as you are suggesting.

DeMar Derozan would be in that core, too, assuming he turns out to be half-decent.  I'd say if they kept that core and had some half-decent other bench guys to go around them, they'll be a 4-5ish seed for a while.  Nothing more than that though.

That's assuming, of course, that they play up to their talent.  They certainly didn't do that last year.

Wow that's a lot of money for Andrea.  Have fun in mediocrity at best Toronto.

Celtics will say that he was the top pick in Rondo's draft so that's likely the ceiling they'll go up to

Rondo's agent will likely say that Rondo is better than Andrea, so he deserves at least that amount

right now I'd say the latter makes more sense (and that kinda scares me a bit - stupid Raps)

Yeah, the latter seems to make more sense. The ceiling argument in the first scenario probably won't make much sense to Rondo's agent. Brandon Roy wasn't the top pick in Rondo's draft, but will certainly get max dollars.

True but it's a different position.  I think big guys who can play generally make more. I'd rather compare Rondo's future salary to other point guards.   However if Rondo ends up making up to 12 mil a year if he continues to build on what he did in the playoffs I would be fine with that.  Anything more then I probably wouldn't do it.  This is going to be interesting later this summer if Rondo gets his extension or not.

I agree 100%.  It's mind-boggling to me how there seems to be so many bad contracts out there that people want to dump when it becomes expiring or have a hard time moving before that.  Well it's because of times like this.  He never should've gotten that much, he's not worth close to that amount.

For the next 2 to 3 seasons you'll read "the Raptors want to include Bargnani in so&so deal but xx team doesn't want that contract."  In 4 seasons he'll be "Bargnani's expiring contract" to be included in deals.

It just never ends.  Really absurd.

Based on this scale Rondo should make $20m a year...

That's not cheap but not and outrage. He played much better the second half of the season and does stretch the floor in a big way for other guys. If DeRozen can be a true slasher, and with Hedu, they could be a very high scoring team this year.

I think it essentially sets the same price for Rondo, which I would be happy with.

Throw what Bargnani out the window.

Celtics are negotiating vs what other teams are willing to spend on Rondo.  And that is not likely going to be that high unless Rondo plays the whole season like he did against he Bulls in the playoffs.

Money teams can use is shrinking.  Fringe stars like Rondo are the ones that will get the squeeze.
