It was announced on WEEI that Pedroia was out of the lineup last night because his wife went into birth 7 weeks early and was in the hospital.  They are currently trying to delay the childbirth.

Hopefully everyone here will keep Pedroia's family in their prayers.

Wow.  That's scary.  Luckily modern medicine can make early childbirths successful at a pretty remarkable rate.  Best wishes for all involved.

Definitely, prayers go out to his wife and child.  My nephew was born exactly 3 months premature, and he has turned out to be a perfectly healthy little boy.  It's amazing what doctors are able to do nowadays.

He's missing the all star game to be with her. Good choice in my opinion. Best wishes.

Yeah, that's definitely the right thing to do.  Sometimes it's easy to forget that at their core, these are just regular guys.

Best wishes to the Pedroias.

Best wishes to their family, I'm sure the child will be fine premature or not.  My brother was born 4 month premature back in '86 and he turned out just fine.

Wow thats crazy.  I was born in 84 and was about 2 months early...never heard of anyone being born earlier than that in those time frames (the 80s) and living...

As for Pedroia's wife, I keep reading it as if something is wrong with her as a result of the premature labor (Francona said: 'Pedey, look. What's the worst-case scenario if you don't go to the All-Star Game?' He said, 'Well, I'm mad.' I said, 'What's the worst-case scenario if you go and Kelli is not ... ')

I took the ...is not... to mean, is not ok.  although I could be interpreting that wrong

Yea he was kept in an incubator for a very long time,  he lost vision in one eye (may be from the lights in the incubator) but other wise he is fine.  He is very lucky, there was another boy who was born at the same time almost exactly the same time frame early and he unfortunately ended up with multiple sclerosis.
