Some of the talk in Orlando had  C.J. Miles as a player of interest on the Jazz's roster, with a half-dozen teams apparently having inquired about Miles, including Toronto, Boston and New Jersey. Miles cannot be traded without his consent through July 25, the one-year anniversary of the Jazz's decision to match the offer sheet Miles signed with Oklahoma City.

Maybe Tony + Giddens/Pruitt for Miles?

I think i would do that deal. I really would like to get rid of TA, and if Pruitt/Giddens arent gonna make the roster or get any playing time then why not trade them too. Miles is a great slasher and finisher, and he also shoots 35.2% from three (not too bad). He averaged 9.1 ppg last year. He is a good athlete and dunker.

However, he does not rebound well at all (2.3 rpg) and is not known for his defense. Also, getting him would probably limit the minutes of Bill Walker (similar size and abilities). I would like to see walker get more minutes, so a player of his skill set may not be the best decision. However, with little other alternative this off season MIles could be a good pick up.

Miles is a pretty good player...will never be a star, but a solid solid player.

I would be pretty happy if the c's were able to package some junk to get him

He's a good player. I would do that deal. He starts for them though, it seems like they would want more for him...

i would dump pruitt, tony and giddens in a minute for him...add much needed depth on the bench because the other 3 guys are scrubs

He and Hill as the backup 2/3 would be good for the Celtics.

Yeah, sounds like a good trade if we give TA, Pruitt and Giddens to Utah to acquire Miles.

Plus, the Jazz would probably do the deal if the rumor about Boozer for Rip Hamilton is true, since Rip would take the starting place of Miles.

The idea of making this deal is attractive...  Other than that, I really don't see a reason for it.  I think dumping TA and some other dead weight could be addition by subtraction, but the two points I would make are:

1)  I think if you hold off until mid season with these contract pieces, you give yourself more options, and a better chance to fill any holes that end up emerging through the season.  If no holes emerge, you can dump them for a young gun, or hold them for the cap space.

2)  C.J. Miles, while a good player, doesn't bring many things that the Celtics actually NEED on this squad.  If we are trading these pieces to bring in a guy that is going to be playing limited minutes at the backup 2 to play some D and get the small, effort plays made, then I would rather see Walker/Hudson/Giddens (In that order) fill those minutes and hold onto those contracts.

I just don't see Miles as being a large enough upgrade to contribute in the small amount of minutes we are offering this role.

Let's all just step back for a second and ponder the incredible prospect of Tony Allen playing for Jerry Sloan.

Do you think a Utah jury would ever convict Sloan in Tony's inevitable murder?

If the C's are just going to dump Tony Allen and Pruitt they are better off doing it in a way that saves them cap space. They could just as easily keep JR, dump Tony Allen to a team under the cap with cash and save several million in luxury taxes. How it works: Tony Allen and 2.6 million dollars to a team under the cap. The team buys Tony Allen out for whatever they can and get to keep the difference. They send us a second rounder so protected we never get it. We save the 2.5 million on Tony's salary. They make 2.6 million - Tony Allen's buyout. Then just cut Pruitt who is non guaranteed anyways. JR Giddens is going to see as much time as CJ Miles - so might as well keep the young guy.

An alternative explanation is that the team likes Tony Allen and would only move him to actually upgrade the team. This may be because they have no other trade-able contracts to bring in a higher priced guy besides Scal and Tony. Or it may be because they feel he can step in and start for 2 or 3 weeks if Allen or Pierce get hurt, even if he's not as successful off the bench. Whatever the reason, it should be relatively easy to shed his salary if that's all they want to do.

i bet their enormously anxious to have some combo of TA, Scal, Giddens, Pruitt -- like very other team in the league. Gang, gotta be more creative on the trade ideas here. We have to give up something they may actually want to get a qualified NBA player (baby, picks, etc)...

If someone would post this as a FanShot I'd like to run it on the front page.  Thanks.

I was a little disappointed in Miles this past season. When he was on the market last FA, he was someone I hoped the Cs would look at, but OKC offered a contract and UTH matched.

He was given a very substantial role on a talented team and never quite put it together...

Is he an upgrade over Giddens or Walker who are looking pretty good in SL?

Tony Allen is a better player.

Why in the world are the Celtics interested in CJ Miles? He's shown absolutely nothing. He's a liability defensively, liability on the boards, doesn't pass the ball, and is a weak scorer. What's to like?
