Quote
Talks continue between the Pistons and Jazz about a Carlos Boozer-Rip Hamilton trade. Hamilton didn't fit with Allen Iverson this season, and he won't fit with newly acquired Ben Gordon. In fact, Gordon has become Iverson. He has no conscience when taking shots.

I understand the reasoning for both teams, although I'm not in love with what Joe Dumars is doing in Detroit this off-season.  As for Utah, they know they're going to lose Boozer next year anyway, and probably want to improve their starting lineup while elevating Millsap.

Imagine Rip Hamilton playing in Jerry Sloan's offense? That would be nice, great fit for Rip.

Rip would also be their best perimeter defender. He could guard players like Kobe better than anyone else on Utah's roster. I'm hoping this goes through.

agree, it makes a kind of sense for both teams

UTH must really like Millsap.

for DET it certainly makes the Gordon signing make a lot more sense...

Utah is never going to be able to attract a FA, so it isn't a terrible deal for them though Hamilton is overpaid for what he produced last year and is tied to a 3 year deal.

Still wonder if they'd be better off calling the Clippers about Chris Kaman, but that's their prerogative.

I think it's the difference in contract demands and all the injuries Boozer has had while there, that's deciding this Boozer vs Millsap call.

I thought Dumars' attempt to try to sell the rest of the world that Gordon understood his role as a 6th man before signing that huge contract was pretty laughable.

It'd be a good trade for Detroit. Boozer would be motivated to play in the last year of his contract, and Detroit needs some frontcourt help. Plus, Boozer would represent a huge expiring contract at next year's deadline.

I'd like Rip in that Utah offense too. Could be a win-win for both teams.

I've been calling for this trade since the rumors about Detroit pursueing Ben Gordon started.  Makes too much sense to happen, though; I could seee Rip excelling under Sloan, and Detroit NEEDS Boozer, with or without Charlie V.  They sure as hell don't need as many wings as they have.

you're about that I think, but then the question becomes if that front court of Okur and Millsap is good enough to be a dangerous playoff team.

the back court certainly will be solid, but I think you might need more up front.

that said, you could make the case that a Boozer led front court had its chance and couldn't get it done so now might be time to move on.

but should UTH give the DWill-Boozer combo one more go at it....tough call.

You don't think Millsap proved enough while starting for the injured Boozer?  I think this would be a great move for Utah.  Plus there's still an assorment of quality big-men that can add depth - Davis/McDyss/Pechulia/Gooden/ect.

I wonder whether Utah hesitates a bit because of the money they already have tied up in the SF spot with Kirlinko.  They aren't directly repetitive, but that's a big committment to a pair of wings with, as noted, some question marks remaining in the frontcourt.

I don't think Utah is a contender ... but the frontcourt is good enough to become one ... especially if they add a good backup big man.

I like this move for both teams. Makes alot of sense.

Who will be playing 5 for Detroit? Would think they would try to target a FA (Za Za?)

Small-ball.  Or, desperately convince Dice to re-sign.

I think their ideal lineup would be:

PG Stuckey
SG Gordon
SF Prince
PF Charlie V
C Boozer

They MIGHT bring Charlie V off the bench, but I think they signed him with the idea that he'd be the starter.  I agree, though, they really need some more height.

They have Kwame Brown starting right now. I'm sure they'd want to bring McDyess back.

I think the smallball lineup the_Bird posted is Dumars' ideal.
