Backup PG Situation

I think with Hudson and Mullins it's more likely an and/or. I also agree that if we were to get Hill, our backup point needs would be less glaring. I'm almost happier to have Scal than Foster, given we have relatively little playing time up front with Garnett, Perk and Wallace up there and the fact that Scal can clearly plug small minutes. No need to take on Foster's big contract when we've signed Sheed already (I liked the idea of bringing in Foster a lot if we were going to use the MLE on a perimeter player). I think it'd be ideal to get rid of TA to avoid any luxury tax problems and sign Powe to a 2 year low money contract. Davis I think will be gone, there just won't be enough minutes for it to be worthwhile to him to stick around. I'd be happy if we could use him and TA in a sign and trade to get back a better perimeter player.

Foster's contract is no big deal, and his game is unlike anyone on the roster but Perk -- who we know has a serious injury concern. In fact, the error in my listing may be both Foster and Baby. if we could add Foster to the group listed I'd let Baby walk if a big offer comes his way. A 4 man big rotation of KG, Wallace, Perk and Foster would be money.

Darius Washington left camp?  I didn't see anything about that in the link.
I hope that he is still going play in the summer league, I had very high hopes for him.  I know he has had a rough couple years since leaving school, but he is still only like 24 yrs old and could have been a legit NBA prospect if he had stayed.

He has played well overseas and even filled in for Tony Parker in SA last year when Parker was hurt.  He should come extremly cheap and has more NBA experience than any of the other PG free agents we have been looking at.

Lester Hudson WILL beat out Pruitt for the backup role. But i think it'll be fortified with a veteran PG at the deadline.

Cut Pruitt, sign Hudson and Mullins for about the amount Pruitt was making, sign Baby and Grant Hill, then trade Scal, TA and a late 1st to IND for Jeff Foster

I'd LOVE to add Foster.... I had targeted him as one of the guys we could get for some/all of our expiring contracts.

I don't hold out much hope since there's really not much incentive for IND to move Foster (he's been there a long time, is their starter (though Hibbert could overtake him this year IMO) and doesn't have a very long contract).

The 2 other bigs that fit in that Scal+Allen+Pruitt salary range that we *might* be able to get would be:

Etan Thomas / MIN --though there seemed more of a chance when he was with WAS -- who needed to dump salary; MIN has like 23 players already, so a 3-for-1 doesn't make much sense

Rony Turiaf / GSW -- again, they don't have a *need* to move him but if Cohan is serious about selling the team, they may be interested in reducing the amount of long-term salary commitments that they have (Turiaf has 3 years at about $4.5M/year --- a bit pricey, but he's a very good, young defensive big man (<2.0 blocks/gm)

From what very little I saw of Hudson, I don't think he'd offer much of a change of flavor from House as a PG.  He might D up a little better, but he looks just as susceptible to ball-pressure D. 

I just don't think we can get what Doc wants.  I'm betting he wants a big PG who can D up 2s, penetrate and hit House with good passes.  All we can get in free agency are combo guards and puny ballhandlers like Lue.

If we want an upgrade or alternate to House, it's going to have to be through trade.  I'd love to grab Keyon Dooling from the Nets.

I don't know how this morphed into a discussion about Jeff Foster. 
I think he would be great on the Cs, but if the Cs resign BBD, then there is no room in the rotation for Foster.

i think it's fair to say the pacers are a team in transition -- thus not picking up their option on daniels. some cap relief, a flyer on tony allen, and a pick is not such a bad deal for foster.

I know this is the least of our needs and now that we have Sheed (Woo Hoo!) we are focused on getting Grant Hill to backup the 2/3 and even play some point forward. It's huge because it sounds like Marbury is not coming back, which is too bad.  I know Danny is going after Lue, but I am not very impressed.  I think that we should go after Barnes instead and let Hill and House share the majority of the backup PG duties with Pruitt or Hudson getting some limited minutes if necessary.  We can add a much better player than Lue in Barnes. 

Also, I think we may have a chance at getting McDyess if Baby gets a full MLE offer from SA, which will free up some money to throw at McDyess.  Now that Sheed is on board the big 3 and Sheed should continue their veteran UFA recruiting tour and ring McDyess' doorbell.  He may be more inclined to come to Boston now that Sheed is coming.  What do you guys think?

The only time he should be playing point is when we got Ray and Paul on the floor (and another scorer if we're going small).

if you've watched the summer league games at all it looks like Pruitt is a much better bet than Hudson at this point.  Hudson probably needs some serious D-league time, and we need a backup point guard now, if only for 10 minutes a game.
