I know this is the least of our needs and now that we have Sheed (Woo Hoo!) we are focused on getting Grant Hill to backup the 2/3 and even play some point forward. It's huge because it sounds like Marbury is not coming back, which is too bad.  I know Danny is going after Lue, but I am not very impressed.  I think that we should go after Barnes instead and let Hill and House share the majority of the backup PG duties with Pruitt or Hudson getting some limited minutes if necessary.  We can add a much better player than Lue in Barnes.

Also, I think we may have a chance at getting McDyess if Baby gets a full MLE offer from SA, which will free up some money to throw at McDyess.  Now that Sheed is on board the big 3 and Sheed should continue their veteran UFA recruiting tour and ring McDyess' doorbell.  He may be more inclined to come to Boston now that Sheed is coming.  What do you guys think?

I don't think Barnes will settle for the vet minimum, which is the only offer we can throw at him/Lue or any other free agent that we are interested in.

Eddie House is the best answer as the backup point guard

agreed. any PG we bring in for the minimum should be behind Eddie on the depth chart IMO.

this may sound weird, but i agree eddie could be ahead in the depth chart, but during the regular season.  i think in the post season, we would rely on a veteran with solid ballhandling and decision making skills.  when team pressure eddie bringing the ball up, he sets the offense up really late in the shot clock, takes himself out of his strength (spot up shooting), or turns the ball over.

all of the aforementioned things also depends on who the other player would be of course

Is Andre Miller available? He's the only name I've seen thrown out here that
1- Is a decent player
2- Isn't washed up

A PG with good handling skills is an ideal complement to House in case Rondo is out for a game or two.

It's for 10 minutes a night anyway, and that is only if House doesn't play PG, as well. Marbury, Lue, whoever.

Rajon Rondo, on hand to help coach, joined the action after free agent guard Darius Washington left camp.

Rondo has already formed a definite impression about some of the newcomers, including Lester Hudson. The point guard was impressed by the rookie’s ability to get down the floor on time to disrupt a home-run pass intended for Bill Walker.

“That was a hell of a collision,” Rondo said. “That kind of showed Danny and the others that he deserves a spot on the team. He is very talented - very gifted.”

Bryan Mullins, a free agent guard from Southern Illinois who broke Delonte West’s three-minute run record during a pre-draft workout, also caught Rondo’s eye.

“I have my offensive and defensive teams with this group, and he’d be my point guard on the offensive team,” said Rondo. “It shows on the court. . . . He never stops. He just keeps going out there.”

Cut Pruitt, sign Hudson and Mullins for about the amount Pruitt was making, sign Baby and Grant Hill, then trade Scal, TA and a late 1st to IND for Jeff Foster:

Guards: Rondo (PG), Ray Allen (SG), Eddie House (combo), JR Giddens (SG), Hudson (combo), Mullins (PG)

Forwards: PP (SF), Grant Hill (SF / "Point Forward" on the 2nd unit), Billy Walker (SF), KG (PF), Baby (PF)

Centers: Perk, Rasheed, Jeff Foster

Still have an open roster spot, and some tradable assets if need be at the deadline.

I think with Hudson and Mullins it's more likely an and/or. I also agree that if we were to get Hill, our backup point needs would be less glaring. I'm almost happier to have Scal than Foster, given we have relatively little playing time up front with Garnett, Perk and Wallace up there and the fact that Scal can clearly plug small minutes. No need to take on Foster's big contract when we've signed Sheed already (I liked the idea of bringing in Foster a lot if we were going to use the MLE on a perimeter player). I think it'd be ideal to get rid of TA to avoid any luxury tax problems and sign Powe to a 2 year low money contract. Davis I think will be gone, there just won't be enough minutes for it to be worthwhile to him to stick around. I'd be happy if we could use him and TA in a sign and trade to get back a better perimeter player.
Go Celtics.
