TA, Scali and cash for Nick Collison

The cash is so they can buy out Scali and he can resign in 20 days for the vet min.

Collison would be a great 4th big man.  His contract is only 2 years long (same as Wallace)

He would fill the garbage man roll that Perk plays off the bench.

OK get two expiring contracts and cash.

6+ million for a 4th big?  Why not just match what other offer Baby gets?

1)Because it is unlikely only a 2 year deal (which seems to be where Ainge wants flexibility)
2)It doesn't add the MLE (or twice that amount) to the payroll since it is replacing the salaries of two other players.

I like this idea, but I guess you have no confidence in Swift being that guy, eh?

I rather he be the 5th/6th big man.  His track record says he is not a rotational player.

Good idea....Collison probably better than BBD and it gets rid of two contracts

Collison is only 28, why does he no longer fit into the Thunders plan? I see no reason for them to shed 6 Million or get rid of a valuable big when they're low on quality bigs in the first place.

we better sign Chris Wilcox, with good passing PG (we have that in Rajon Rondo)he is very good player, he never shine, because his game depend on the PG, if he play alongside a good PG, he is a monster

I think the better trade w/ the Thunder would be to get Earl Watson.  We need pg depth badly.

i'm certainly in favor of a TA and Scal (expiring contracts) deal for one big, for one important reason besides our obviousl need for frontcourt depth: roster spots for our young guys. assuming Pruitt is toast, and this gets TA gone, it allows for Hudson, Mullins, Giddens and Walker to make the team. This is how I'd like to see the back court shape up if we sign Grant Hill -- he can run the offense with Eddie on the floor so he can then play off the ball on O, and therefore we don't need Marbury or the like.

But is Collison really the best out there? And does OKC really want to trade him?

For example, why not change this to Jeff Foster. To me the Pacers may be more likely to look to shed salary. We could throw in a pick to get it done.

While I would have liked this idea before the Sheed signing, I actually am not sure if it would be the best fit right now.  I would be happier using those guys to get a backup PG or wing (if they don't sign Hill).

I feel confident in the big men they have now, and think they can add depth with the vet minimum in guys like Powe, Swift, May, Joe Smith, Jason Collins, etc.

Really though, unless they get a great offer for Scal and Tony, I would be just as happy holding on to Scal (Tony less-so, but the contracts work so well together), and having him provide depth up front.  Then at the trade deadline, seeing what holes they have, and trying to fill them then, with a package like that.  I have a feeling Collison isn't going anywhere, and if we wanted that deal, we could still get it in February, if some of the other guys didn't pan out.

Agree with Chris, I'd rather use a trade to get a wing who can give some minutes at the 4. We don't need a lot of minutes in the frontcourt anymore. Perkins, KG and Wallace are gonna eat up all available minutes at the 4 and 5. While we will be highly dependent on them and have some risk if there are further injuries, since we have other holes that need to be filled, I'd try to fill those first. Namely, a very good wing defender with height off the bench and a backup point guard - again preferably one with size who can cover 2s while House covers opposing point guards.

And basically, I'm happy enough with Scal as a 4th big that I don't see the need to get a new one. If a great trade comes up, obviously you take it, but I'd rather see us get a couple of wings.
Go Celtics.

He's one of the poor contracts in the league though it is only for 2 years.  I'd rather not have to pay this guy $6.75MM next year when Ray's contract is coming off the books.

Why would you rather not pay him 6.75 mm with Ray's contract coming off the books? Is it because we will have cap space with Ray coming off the books? Which we won't.
