McDyess still a possibility?

At first, in the early days of our offseason, I was thinking that signing McDyess would be a better move than signing Sheed. Now I've changed my mind and I'm excited to see Sheed play in green.

But our froncourt is still short, since we don't know if we will re-sign Big Baby. Basically, we have Perkins/Sheed at center and KG/Scalabrine at the 4 spot.

So, let's say we let Baby walk, do you think we could sign McDyess for the veteran minimum? He really wants a ring and maybe he would take his chance in Boston now that Sheed has signed with us, and since they've played together for years. I know that Dice is still considering Detroit, even after last year's debacle, and he could get big minutes there but if he wants a ring badly, he should consider Boston.

And, by the way, do you think that the management has talked to McDyess or consider signing him? I would be glad if we get him, although it just makes our team even older, our frontcourt would be just great.

I bet San Antonio goes after him hard, now that they've lost out on 'Sheed.  I love 'Dice, and I'm pretty sure he was one of the guys that Danny's already inquired about, but hard to see him coming here to be the fourth big for little money.  Orlando might make a push, too; they've lost most of their big men behind Howard, Gortat's gone, Turk's gone, and Batman was traded.

I'd have to imagine that one of the other contenders can pay Dice more than the vet minimum, which would be all we could pay him if its true we've given the bi-annual exception to Grant Hill. Cav's and SA need help at the 4/5, and with SA he could even be in the mix to start at the 5 next to Duncan. And while the C's have an excellent shot at a title, so do other teams who can pay more money.

Well if SA signs Baby to the full MLE like Tanguay was saying then they will only be able to offer the LLE, which is around what we could offer him. I think Orlando or Cleveland are the best bets.

I don't think San Antonio is going to overpay for BBD. Spurs might make an offer, but it won't be the full MLE. Gary doesn't really know how things work in the NBA with regards to salary.

What young player out there is going to sign for the vet minimal?  I mean one that will matter long term.


Right now, the Celtics have the right focus, title contending bench. 


Worry about youth and the next Celtics rebuilding project when they get there.

Unlikely.  I just don't believe that a minimum or LLE contract for us will be his best option.

Not sure where McDyess winds up but I am sure it will not be in Boston. Like others have stated, he can easily command more than the minimum from other teams. I look for him to either re-sign in Detroit or sign with the Spurs, Cavs or Magic.

Unlikely.  I just don't believe that a minimum or LLE contract for us will be his best option.   

Add to that his becoming the 4th big, and it is really unappealing for him.

Detroit doesn't have McDyess' Bird Rights, and I don't think they have the cap space to pull this off.
