Can someone confirm whether Detroit still holds Bird Rights for Sheed? I believe they do.

Assuming Sheed agrees to play with Boston, I am wondering whether a sign-and-trade could be negotiated with Detroit. This would preserve our full MLE, since we'd be sending contracts back to Detroit.

For instance, if Detroit really is interested in Davis, perhaps a mutual sign-and-trade involving BBD and Sheed could be worked out?

I would be fine with that if the Celtics use the MLE on a good player and sign another big man with the LLE or vet min.  (like Oberto)

To create cap room, they would have had to renounce him, as his cap hold would prevent them from signing Gordon and Charlie V.

Of course, Detroit has some time to work things out, as they don't have to renounce anybody until they actually try to formally sign somebody (after July 8).  Until that point, they can attempt to negotiate sign-and-trades, etc.

I'd love to be able to add both McDyess and Sheed, but I don't think Detroit would accommodate us to do that.

But if they pull off a sign and trade at close to the MLE (or just above it) that removes the hold.  Does that leave enough money to sign both players?

I saw some reports in the Pistons press saying the front office hoped to have $3-4 million more in cap space once the official numbers are released.

If Davis signed for whatever was left over in the cap space, then a sign and trade could be done for Rasheed. Then Detroit renounces the rest of their players and signs Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.

So I think it depends on where the cap ultimately falls.

I read somewhere that Dumars wants to use that remaining cap space to resign McDyess.

Will they want both Davis and McDyess?

I can't imagine they would. They still have Maxiell under contract, there wouldn't be enough minutes for everyone. Plus they'd still need a center.

No, I don't think so, and I think they'd prefer to keep McDyess.

I don't put a lot of trust in those reports that say Detroit are interested in Glen Davis. Especially not now, after they've already spent nearly all their cap space. Davis isn't that good of fit there, not with Maxiell already earning $5 million a season. It looks like too much of a stretch to me.

Yeah, I think you're right.

If, however, McDyess doesn't resign in Detroit, then I could see some interest/logic in signing Davis to back up Maxiell.

The Gordon signing hasn't become official yet..Detroit hasn't renounced the rights of AI and Rasheed right?  I do not know much about the salary cap and what can and can't happen.
Detroit im sure is looking for something in return for their FA's and they have shown intrest in Big Baby. So my question is..is there anyway that we can resign baby to a contract and then do a sign and trade for Wallace that can allow us to keep the MLE?

Funny, I had the very same thought a little while ago.
