If they are going to offer the MLE to Davis, why not just use similar money and resign Bass?

I doubt they are too. Aren't they offering the full MLE to Gortat? Where are they going to get this money to sign BBD too? He must be a back up plan just in case Orlando matches the offer for Gortat, but like you said  why not just resign Bass if thats the case?

Every penny above luxury tax counts. Minimum contracts are handled differently, depending on the amount of years the player has played in the league since the league reemburses an ammount of the salary.

i thought tanguay KNEW rasheed was coming here?? i don't put any faith in anything he says right now.

How could Tanguay KNOW where Rasheed's going if even Ainge doesn't, and at this point in time Rasheed might not? He was right that the Celts were targeting Rasheed, that's about as good as he could do at the time.

I'm thinking $4 Mil to Davis, not the MLE.

One question, didn't the Magic acquire Bass already?

I don't think so , I think they were talking about doing a S+T with Dallas for Bass, but now they have Rasheed coming in to try and sign him so they will probably wait until Rasheed has signed somewhere .

My gut tells me that no one is going to offer him the MLE and he will be back with the Celtics.

I think the Knicks will, if they offered it to Grant Hill, why wouldn't they for a young PF with potential ?

I think the grant Hill offer was a just a 1 year deal so they would still have as much cap space as possible for next offseason.  Plus if they were considering offering BBD a multiyear deal then why not just re-sign Lee for a little more and they just drafted a PF.

Memphis just paid a ton of money for Randolph.

Detroit just paid a ton of money for CV and Gordon and I'm not sure how much of their MLE they have left.

SA desperately needs a starting big to go along with Duncan.  I doubt BBD is someone they have in mind for that role and they only have up to the MLE.

I could see Dallas being a wild card to get some more depth in the frontcourt and Cuban overpaying for him.

OK, that was what wasn't making sense to me. How they could be after Rasheed, after "signing" Bass.

How can Dallas enter the mix when they are using their MLE on Gortat?

Big Baby update. Dallas has entered into the mix along Det, NY, SA and Memphis. My gut tells me Baby is gone because of money.

I think BBD is gone too, my guess would be to NY because every other free agent is turning them down .

I don't see NYK signing contract more than for one season. they want to have max money for 2010 FA.

POR is now rumored to be going hard after David Lee after losing out on Turk, so IMO that would take them out of the mix.

DET could be a possibility, but I would bet that Dice is their first choice.

and SAS might look at Baby if they lose out on Dice and Sheed, but that would probably mean good news for us as either Sheed or Dice would be in a Cs uniform at that point.

no idea on MEM, but they did just trade for Randolph.

Give me a choice, and I'll take Bass every day.

I don't think Tanguay knows what a restricted free-agent means.

probably doesn't, but I don't think BBD is coming back if someone offers him 4MIL+ UNLESS we miss out on Rasheed.

They'd have to offer him more than that.  I think Ainge will match $4mil.

but wouldn't be 8 MIL with the luxury tax? I just think the C's would try to sign someone like Wilcox, Diogu or McDyess with the LLE ( 2 MIL) if they are able to sign Rasheed with the MLE. Because if we have Rasheed he will be playing both the PF and C positions , which leaves very little time for BBD .

I thought the luxury tax didn't come into play when re-signing your own players?  But what do I know.
You are thinking of the salary cap. You can re-sign your players even when over the salary cap.

The luxury cap works on total payroll, so it does count with re-signing players. The only caveat there is vet minimum deals. The point being that it is possible to sign the player, but costly.

We have to pay double for every dollar over the luxury tax minus the minimum contracts.

I think all of these teams would only be interested in Baby at a price the Celtics would match.

Who knows though, crazy contracts happen all the time.
