FWIW From Tanguay:

I spoke with Bill Stickland, the agent for Rasheed Wallace moments ago . He told me…

Danny Ainge wanted to show up on Rasheed’s doorstep Wed. Night at midnight…which is when the free agent signing period began. Wallace told Danny that was not necessary so team green flew out Thursday instead.

Danny, Coach Doc Rivers, managing partner Wyc Grousbeck along with KG, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce were in the meeting with Strickland, Rasheed and his wife Fatima. Without question the Celtics increased their chances of obtaining Rasheed by making this trip. The effort put forth by the Celtics impressed Rasheed, Fatima and Strickland.

The fact that Rasheed has never played on a team with the likes of KG, Paul and Ray works in favor of the Celtics.

Fatima and Rasheed will make this decision together. She is very important in this process. Civil activities are very important to her. Ray Allen, because of his work with juvenile diabetes, was able to connect with her on this matter.

The way Doc handled the three egos of the big three has not gone unnoticed by Rasheed. Doc is well respected by players throughout the NBA.

Despite his reputation in Boston Rasheed is an unselfish teammate and would fit great with the big three.

Rasheed would be visiting other clubs today but wanted to spend time with his family. He will travel next week. Other teams in play are Orlando, San Antonio and Dallas. It is not just about the money. The team has to have a realistic chance at a championship. The Lakers were in the hunt until they signed Ron Artest. He did visit Dallas last week but it was not regarding a basketball matter.

Thanks for the news, it makes me a little more confident, but not too much... at least it looks like the team really did its best to convince Rasheed, now it's up to him and his wife.

Sounds to me that Sheed is going to explore his options and see what offer is best.  Money will be equal, so the intangibles will win out.  It appears it's SA's starting spot vs. KG's friendship.  Friendship only gets you so far, hope it's enough.

The whole approach by the Celts here will just make it all the more devastating now if he doesn't sign here.

They've gone "ALL IN" on Rasheed, and will be left with their pants down, and looking sort of foolish if he goes elsewhere.  Then again I don't know what they could have done differently if he's really the guy they want the most...Just my opinion.
Yup

Spurs job is the most enticing proposition. Starting @ Center, next to the greatest Power-Forward ever. Plus you get to be coached by Gregg Popovich, and play with Tony Parker/Manu Ginobili/Richard Jefferson. Who could turn that down?

Could you imagine Rasheed under Van Gundy? I can't see that working out. Rasheed might hit 100 techs around Van Gundy's frantic-ness.

I'm glad they went all in for him. But it does mean if we don't get him it will look bad.

The four Centers that were most generally discussed in the pre-Sheed era, namely McDyess (OK, he's a PF/C), Gortat, Rasho and Zaza, are all still available, last I checked.  Any of them would give us the big we need.

We still need to re-sign Baby (the one thing that's in our control, however costly), and I say we still need yet another big, in addition to The Gingervitis Twins.

And you know, as Jeff said, (Sour Grapes here we come), there are always lingering doubts about Sheed.

But still,  :P
