because he has performed at a pretty high level for a young developing player. plus, if we sign ?Sheed, then length in the front court is much less of a concern.

  As a Celtics season ticket holder, I whole-heartedly stand by your decision to not re-sign Mr Powe.  While a great guy on and off the court, your decision to not resign a one-dimensional undersized forward with 3 ACL surgeries in the past 6 years is only common sense for building a successful team for 2009-10 and beyond.

Wow man, that sounded like a [dang] commercial. Have you not seen Leon Powe play in a game before? He played injured for us last year when we were desperate. I hate to say it, I love KG and all, but [dang] Leon has had this knee ruin his career and he was lacing it up. I want Leon on my championship team. No doubt.

You guys can count on me! Leon Powe  at least deserves to be offered the minimum right after not being signed a QO. I know that this is business and i see the point that offering Leon a contract now is a waste of a roster spot but, what about Sam Cassell last season? Or what about JR, Walker, Pruitt and others?. We are not asking for a max contract or anything like that, we are just demanding what we think it's right, the opportunity for Powe to be a part of this team. Leon gave this team a lot and i hope Ainge reconsiders his opinion!
Anyways, Leon we wish you all the best and thank you for all you did for us!

Fans need to be realistic, we can still sign him later... but don't you think we should sign somebody that can play for the first 3/4 of the season? I just saw the front page and the comments attributed to Danny, and I'm completely bummed.  With flotsam like Hudson, Giddens, Tony, etc., on the roster, it's disappointing that we can't find any sort of place for Powe.

It stinks - but what are you going to do? If Powe is taking the roster spot of a McDyess or Hill, well, Powe shouldn't be signed. This is the NBA where wins count,  not tough-luck.

Yes, I'd prefer McDyess or Hill over Powe.  I would not, however, prefer Pruitt or Hudson.

Roy, I defer to your basketball knowledge, but just to be snide-  isn't Grant Hill about 40 and playing on feet held together with paper clips?  And based on the little I saw of him last year, I'm not sure he could defend Kirstie Allen.

Hill will be 37, but he played in 82 games last season, including 68 starts.  He's a consistent scorer, and is coming off one of his most efficient seasons.  He'd fill our backup 3 hole well.

As for being more of a contributor than Powe, Powe won't be playing until at least February.  Also, I think the big man hole can be filled elsewhere for this season.  I want to bring Powe back, but I concede that there are better players on as a one year option.

i love powe as much as anyone, but count me out. this is a business, and until we know how his knee is going to heal up, there is zero point in us using a valuable roster spot on him. everyone's always complaining about how we need veteran help, and then they turn around and say we're too old, let's get young projects...we have 15 spots...and after last years numerous injuries, we've learned how crappy it is to have even just 1 of those 15 spots filled up with guys who can't play (walker, pruitt, giddens, moore). and now we're just swapping moore for hudson, and you want to add powe to that list? that puts us at only 5 bench players we can actually safely USE, 2 of those 5 spots being currently taken by tony allen and scalabrine. that leaves us with currently 1 decent reserve in eddie house and 2 roster spots to fill. are you guys seriously saying you'll be content with picking up only two FAs for the bench this year? an 8 man rotation doesn't contain enough depth and security for me.

The Boston Celtics is a team based on brotherhood rather then business (or at least it used to be...) this organization is well known for being one, if not the only, team that will always give loyalty to most of it's players.

People keep saying that this is a business, if it really is then why didn't Red get rid of the three "washed up" (as Ainge likes to say) players he had in the 80's aka Mchale,Parish, and Bird? I think Red would have said something if he was still around today about matter. Ainge's theory of their is not one player on this team who isn't safe from being traded is pure bull.

I became a fan of the Celts because of the loyalty they show to their players, it's the main factor that separates them from all the other teams in the league. Getting rid of Leon is like "Tony Battie part II" but way worse since Powe was a better player.
