guys, just because they didnt offer him a qualifying offer, doesnt mean that they arent going to bring him back at some point.

people need to relax.  If they offered him the QO (which would be overpaying) and he played in 10 total games this year, everyone would freak out that they didnt do enough in the offseason to build the bench.  RELAX.  let them build the best team that they can.  If leon offers them more than a FA can, they will sign him.

Read the article cited on the front page.  It sounds like Danny has moved on.

Dear Mr. Ainge and Mr. Grousbeck,

I, the undersigned, was disturbed to hear the stories that Leon Powe will not be resigned due to the knee injury he suffered in the first round of this year's playoffs. If true, I believe that this decision - while it may have some economic merit - is a classless move by an organization that has represented class in the NBA since its inception.

Mr. Powe is an inspiration on many levels. Whether it is the tireless work and toughness that he brings to the basketball court, the adversity that he has overcome to be the man he is today, or the work he does to support his community, Mr. Powe demonstrates what a professional should be.

As a lifelong Celtics fan, I urge the two of you to see beyond the dollars and cents of the moment. Demonstrating such crude business skills with a man who - from all reports I have heard - is a well-respected member of the Boston Celtics and who has a devoted following within the fanbase will have large consequences moving forward. How do you expect us fans and Celtics players to reciprocate loyalty, when you are not making the effort to extend it to one of the NBA's true warriors?

If it stands, the Celtics treatment of Leon Powe will be a black eye on the organization.

With concern,

DA has a responsibility to his bosses and Celts fans to make sure Powe can physically play basketball at a reasonable level before he offers him an NBA contract. If just liking a guy was a reason to be on a roster than Larry would still be with the team, but it can't be that way. Look at what happened after TA snapped his ACL. Powe has done this, what, three times now?
This is the risk any athlete takes. Look at Yao. They aren't going to resign him if he can't play.
I'm willing to play hard too, but that doesn't mean I'm owed an NBA contract if I can't play at an NBA level

add me to the petition. while i fully understand the physical questions surrounding powe and the economics of the situation, nevertheless, i believe leon powe has more than earned a place on the celtics with his production, hard work, and attitude.

i also understand the need to fill each roster spot with the best available player. however, i am also convinced that leon powe will be more valuable to the celtics than j.r. giddens, who also eats up a roster spot.

I read the article.  I still beleive that the C's are trying to make the best team they can this offseason.  they may be allocating roster spots to unsigned guys (Sheed, Hill, who knows...) if they get none of the guys they are planning, they may decide Powe is better then other options and go back to him.

The fact that they supposedly dont think he will be tells me that his knee is a mess and there is no point wasting money and a roster spot on him right now.  since they know more about his rehab than any of us, I am perfectly fine with that decision.  We all know what kind of contributor he has been for this team, and if he could continue to do that they would want him here.

Send it to Bob Ryan too. He was mad about this decision on PTI today. We voted him the 6th Star Award winner. We want Powe!

It stinks - but what are you going to do? If Powe is taking the roster spot of a McDyess or Hill, well, Powe shouldn't be signed. This is the NBA where wins count,  not tough-luck.

I love Leon, but if being loyal to a great guy costs the C's a championship I'm not for it.  Build a championship team however you can.  Build loyalty when you're 15-67.

I still think he'll be back in Feb if there is room on the roster.

Yes, I'd prefer McDyess or Hill over Powe.  I would not, however, prefer Pruitt or Hudson.

This may be the understatement of the year.
