Tanguay was on Toucher and Rich around 8:30. From what I could gather, he sounded like he thought that if we let Big Baby go then we would have "cap room to get Sheed". ??? He went on to say that Sheed wants at least $8 million but might take a paycut. Sheed will be in Boston either today or tomorrow with his family to "check out Boston".

They can re-sign Davis to 175% of his last contract and still sign Sheed to the full MLE without it effecting the usage of the MLE.  Luxury tax is probably what he meant.

Remember, they retain the early bird rights for Davis so his money doesn't count towards using the MLE for other players.
reporters never get the cap right. what he meant is the team would have room in payroll - not technical cap space. (that's my inference based on years of crappy cap related reporting by the msm)

So if we went into the season with something that looks like this at the 4 and 5, who here would be happy?

KG/BBD
Perk/Sheed

If Powe was never injured, I would  ^&%$ myself over the line up of...

KG/POWE/Sheed
Perk/Powe/Sheed
True Celtic = Leon Powe

Bring back the show!!!!

But I think Sheed would give us the comfort on the front line to let Baby walk and wait on Powe's recovery.  As I said in another post, it doesn't make a ton of sense to give Baby any sort of significant money if Wallace is going to get the majority of the backup minutes at the 4/5 spots.  So if I were the C's (and concerned about money), I'd probably make an effort to sign Oberto very cheaply.  If he's in, great, and you go into next season with a front court rotation of Perk/KG/Sheed/Oberto/Scal.  If not, I'd feel OK with going into it with Perk/KG/Sheed/Scal as long as they had re-signed Powe and he'd be back for the playoffs.

That's exactly how I inferred it from Tanguay.

I would want them to add another vet C at the vet min if Davis walks.  (Oberto for example)

Someone who could play minutes during the regular season, but give way to Powe playing when he is healthy.

Yeah.  Me too.  I like Baby, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to get him at much more than we're paying him now if Sheed comes here.  Especially, as you suggested, if we can get a stopgap like Oberto who could give way to Powe later in the year.

We can actually give BBD more than a 175% bump, as we're allowed to give him a 175% raise *or* the "average salary", which is the amount of the MLE.
