AP- (SEATTLE) The Seattle Supersonics got an up-close look at a number of players today in their first predraft workout in anticipation of the draft later this month.
Sonics brass wouldn't say exactly who was in attendance, but a source close to the team indicated they were quietly impressed with William Russell, a 6'10 center from San Francisco. Russell, who projects as a power forward/center professionally, routinely outworked and outperformed his much-publicized counterpart Kansas center Wilton Chamberlain in scrimmages, according to scouts in attendance.
While many mock drafts have Chamberlain going as high as 6 to Boston, Seattle is apparently more interested in the lesser known Russell, whom they feel is a defensive presence they can build a team around.
When asked about his team's interest in Russell, Sonics VP in Charge of Being Gary Payton Gary Payton said "Get the Hell out of my office! Reignman! REIGNMAN! Get these fools out!!"
