Can't understand why Portland is shopping this guy. He is their 3rd best player on a 54 win team. What is it going to take to get Travis in green? Beside our starters, we have no one that Portland would want. Maybe a first rounder in 2010? If we can get a trade done, and sign him to an extension we would set for another 3 years. BBD & Travis off the bench is a good start.

How is our relationship with Portland? They might hold a grudge for the Darius Miles situation.

I completely agree with you, but don't know how to get a deal done.

Presumably, Portland wants salary relief (so they can sign big name free agents).  So they will want to deal with a team with room, like Memphis or OKC.  The question is, is it possible for Boston to get in on a three way?  For example, send Scal to Memphis, Memphis sends a trade exemption to Portland, Portland sends Outlaw to Boston?  Obviously Portland will want a little more than salary relief in return, and Memphis will need to be remunerated in some way.  Maybe Boston sends Scal+Walker+future 2nd rounder to Memphis and Boston also sends a protected future 1st rounder to Portland....

Not only would such a deal net us a very solid backup at the wing, but it would help Portland sign Hedo or whoever they are going after, and I say better to send the FA to a team in the West than to a team in the East...

Now remember that reported deal which would have sent Scal+Tony+Walker to Memphis on draft night for a 2nd rounder?  If the Cs had been able to pull that off, then they would be able to use the resulting exemption created to trade directly with Portland for Outlaw... (darn you Chris Wallace!)

Tony Allen and Gabe Pruitt for Outlaw would save them roughly 1.5 million after they cut pruitt.

Nice.  Yes I just did the calculations and you are right.  I wonder if that is enough, though.  My guess is they would rather just get the full $4M in relief if they can find a team with enough room to take him.  Assuming the $1.5M is enough to get Portland interested, I wonder what else Boston would need to send (a future 1st?).

It really depends on whether or not any teams are looking to take on salary. I could see a team like Detroit as a candidate.

Does any one know how far the blazers are under the cap?

Outlaw to Memphis for a 2nd round pick gets them $4MM of relief, which puts them in Turkoglu range (they are currently $5MM under the cap).  Memphis could use a legitimate swing option right now and he's from a few hours south of Memphis originally.

Yeah, Memphis seems like a more likely trading candidate.  Still, I wish the Cs could swing it...

I have two questions.

Does anyone have a chart showing the contracts of the celtics next season, as well as travis outlaws contract next season?

Would we be able to use either of the sam cassel or patrick obryant trade exemptions (i know you can use more than one in a trade.)?

How good is Travis Outlaw's defense?  I don't want any part of him if he can't defend.  His most important job would be to guard the taller small forwards in the league, think Rashard Lewis, Lamar Odom, etc.

Outlaw would be a perfect fit for this team off the bench. His defense is okay, but so was PP and Ray's prior to KG. There were many times this year that we needed scoring off the bench in stretches , so only signing defenders isn't a great idea either. Both would be nice, but then typically they are starters.

I think the only way POR is helped by trading Outlaw is moving him to a team that is under the cap right?

then they don't have to take back a contract of equal value.

or is the trading team the one that needs to  be under the cap?

I cannot see Memphis turning down Scalabrine and cash considerations ($3 million max) for nothing - they get a reserve forward for $400k.

Would Portland move Outlaw for the cap room to sign Turk? Is he that much of an upgrade at his age?
