I just got back from vacation in Maine. We stayed on Vinalhaven - a little island an hour's ferry from Rockland. It was an amazingly quiet and beautiful place. We had no cable. No internet. No cell phone service, and I deliberately avoided newspapers until the day we were leaving. As many of you may have noticed, I spend a lot of time on line

. Good to clear the brain.
I was even without radio too for much of the trip since my entire family was in the car whenever we went anywhere and sports radio will get me pummeled to a pulp instantly. Finally on Thursday I went out on my own to pick up some takeout dinner, and I found the Maine sports station. I was caught up to speed on all of the baseball scores (Smoltz's debut), the draft trading craziness (I actually like the Wizards trade the most for them, and that one wasn't even mentioned...Shaq schmack I say), and at the end of the Maine "sports flash" there was mention that Michael Jackson might be dead.
I can distinctly remember being on vacation as a kid when Elvis died. Strange to be at an unfamiliar place when something memorable happens. Say what you will about MJ, but his death is a big deal in the popular media.
Ahyhow, vacation was great. Good to be back and geared up for summer. It's nice to be plugged back in, back if you have the opportunity, I highly recommend unplugging from time to time. Just be careful sports mayhem and celebrity deaths tend to ensue (RIP Farrah

).
Here are a couple of pics from vacation:
