an extended dispute with a high profile player with a no-nonsense agent is only going to go from bad to worse.
so IMO it depends on what Rubio is really wanting to do. If it's about the buyout, then Minnesota could definitely wait a year or two. If it's about not wanting to play for them, then they're going to have to trade him...
Ricky has two choices right now and no agent can change that. He can play for Minni, or go back and play in Europe. OK, maybe he has others like not playing at all but realistically, those are his choices.
If he goes back to Europe to play for 1 year, whether it is because of geography or buyouts, how does that make it any different for Minni? If he plays one year in Europe and actually plays, gets better as would be expected, and grows up a year, wouldn't he be an even more valuable trade commodity? How about after 2 years in Europe when he is now a sage old 20? If he develops as expected, at that point he would be more valuable in terms of talent than the #1 pick in the regular draft and scaled to get paid less.
If I am Minni, I say fine, go play in Europe for 2 years and then we will trade you to NY or come play for us if by then you have gotten over yourself enough. No way I trade him now unless someone blows me away.
