With Phoenix imploding, what now are the chances of Grant Hill thinking about signing to a contender? I think Grant Hill fits perfectly with the Celtics but always thought he would just resign back to PHO. But now that Shaqs gone, I see no reason why Hill would want to rot in Phoenix.

I think it depends what else is happening in Phoenix. Are they in full rebuild mode? They still have Amare, Nash, etc., plus the #14 pick in the draft. People assume they'll blow it up, but maybe they go in a different direction.

For instance, the Suns could flip Ben Wallace to New Orleans for Tyson Chandler after July 1, when the new contract year starts. That move would get them a young center and still would represent some additional trimming of payroll (nearly $2 mil less).

I'd love for him to be here, as I've said in countless other posts.  My ideal offseason would be adding him and Antonio McDyess.  If not all season, at least in the playoffs, he could probably backup both Pierce and Allen, dramatically improving what we've had over the past year.  Also, playing him with House on the court allows Eddie to still guard opposing 1s, but play off the ball on offense.

He only made 1.9 million this year, so it may not be out of the question to ask him to split the MLE with McDyess for a shot at a title.

Doesn't Chandler still have more than one year left on his contract?  Big Ben was such a desired commodity for cheapskate teams like Phoenix because he's already said he's likely to retire and he's willing to take a lot less money in a buyout (kind of the anti-Starbury).  Seems to be a dumb move on Ben's part; sit on the bench and collect every $$ on that contract, you idiot!

I'm not sayin I'm just sayin.
Spurs and Cleavland are now the teams that these type of players will also want to go to. Boston has sliped in terms of a top place to play. Don't forget the always fun place to go play L.A.(makes me wanna puke just saying that). I say we are alittle bit ahead of Orlando right now as far as guys signing cheep and playing here for a chance to win. Spurs Cleavland and LA just might to be more desireable place right now. I JUST THREW UP A LITTLE IN MY MOUTH.

Chandler does have another year on his contract beyond this one.

Wallace has only said he'd discuss retirement with his family, and then make a decision. People assume he's going to hang it up, but what's his incentive to take a buyout? He has to get paid for this last year, regardless.

I think the chances of Hill leaving Phoenix are very good.

The chances of him landing here in Boston? Good ... and much improved after the Spurs trading for Richard Jefferson because they no longer have a larger role to offer him.

  • LETS DO IT AGAIN!
This is crazy.
I just thought the same thing last Monday.
Hill had a great year, and would be a perfect fit off the bench.
He is a winner and a vet.

I think Grant HIll would have signed here 2 years ago if he hadn't already signed with the Suns prior to the Ray and KG trades.

I think chances are very high that Hill could come to Boston. There's a 20 minute per game hole for a big wing on the C's bench.

And Boston are the favorites for the title (outside of LA - who will have a full roster when they resign Odom and Ariza).

C'mon Grant! We need ya!

Most people have ridiculously short memories and will see the Cavs and the Lakers as the two favorites this year.  People will be like "Celtics?  Huh?  They don't have a superstar, do they?"

The Spurs and the Celtics are the sleepers for the Finals this year, I think, assuming they both have good off-seasons.  The Spurs have already begun having a good one.  Our off-season apparently hasn't started yet.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

of the phoenix sf free agents, i'd rather have barnes.  younger, more athletic, more range, more tattoos.  okay tattoos was a joke, but i'd rather have him for the other reasons.

On a certain level that makes sense.  However, Hill is so much better than Barnes from a talent standpoint I think it makes up for the things you mentioned.

Plus, Hill could run the offense when Rondo is out of the game, which frees up Allen, Pierce, and probably most importantly, Eddie House, to do what they do best: put the ball in the basket.

i agree from an offensive standpoint, but if we're looking for a wing with some length, defensive ability (see: james posey) to rest pierce, barnes is probably more capable with his athleticism.  although, barnes has played for the warriors/suns where i don't think they even coach defense so it could be a risk.  but hey, it's draft day, so i'll select him over hill on defensive "potential."
