I see crap trades going on around the league like its nothing. Shaq for Sasha and Big Ben? Crawford a good scorer for acie Law and some other bum. Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas, and Oberto for RJ! Thats a 37 yeard old who really doesn't play the same D anymore. A 37 year old that really cant play anymore, And a decent vet in Oberto whom they just traded! How come we cant get something for Scal, J.R., and Tony? I mean really thats just as good as a package then all of those teams put up for very good players! What the heck is going on!

Take a closer look.  Many of the contract being moved are partially guarenteed next season.

Teams are going to waive these players and get under the cap.

Celtics do not have those type of deals.

But have no fear, those types of contracts are going to disappear.  Come trade deadline, Scali and TA will be a highly desired contract duo for teams looking to save money.

Just be patient.

because Scal, TA and Giddens only add up to about 6 MIL. Teams are trying to move contracts of guys that are making around 10 MIL.

Partially guaranteed contracts and guys who are retiring.  That's what's getting shopped around.  Those contracts / players will save teams a lot of money.

All we have is a few not-very-good bench guys who have expiring contracts which are each worth a couple million bucks.  Besides Ray, we don't have any really great bargaining chips in terms of stuff that will save other teams money.

Not only the partially guaranteed point, but this is also the curse that comes along with the blessing of having 3 max contracts.  The blessing of course is that we get three superstars.  The curse, of course, is that nearly 60 million of our 74 million or so collective salary is tied into 3 players.  Thus, we don't have the contracts to move that some of these teams have unless we want to mess with our core.

I think that the off season is the time to move these guys. We can add in Pruitt who's contract isn't guaranteed. We can use this to get someone like Noccioni, or Maggette. We should do it now so that we can buy a draft pick to help fill out our roster.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

We can either dump salary and receive expiring contracts or give expiring contracts for talent.

No one is suggesting the former, and we have only $8-9 million in expiring contracts excluding RA.

We could have done a deal for Shaq for RA, but that doesn't really work for us and RA for Jefferson ends up screwing up our cap next year and gets a guy who I think is the lesser talent.

The Clippers suck of course he had problems coming off the bench. He was considering signing with us last year and he wouldn't have started. He only makes like a million a year more than Noccioni, why not Maggette?

In a separate question the trade checker says we have about 1.5 million in trade exceptions can anyone verify those?

we don't have much use for Shaq...

Richard Jefferson is one of the most overpaid players in the league... we probably could have had him if we really wanted him, but why pay a guy 15 mil to come off the bench?

Crawford sucks.

That's your short answer.

We have the capacity to make those kind of deals.  We can throw together some collection of expiring deals... Scal, Tony, House, Giddens, Walker, Pruitt... and I think we'd come close to being able to bring in a guy making 10-11 mil.  But it's gotta be the right kinda guy and the right fit.   And I think Ainge is trying to keep his options wide open.  If he gets a crazy deal where he's able to trade Rondo for a guy who will be on his rookie scale contract for a few more years, that means we'd avoid paying Rondo big money... and once Ray expires we could in theory have some free agent money to play around with ...   If we go and trade for an overrated player on a bloated contract (Richard Jefferson) that eliminates that long-term flexibility.

I feel exactly the same as you, we have expiring contracts of House, TA, Scal, J.R, Walker

We have two small TEs of about $740K each. They are from last season's Cassell and O'Bryant trades, because we didn't take back any salary in either deal.

They can't be combined, so they likely won't be of much use down the line.

Because those teams are LOSERS!!!!!

Is Shaq going to put Cleveland over the top? I don't think so. He cannot defend Pietrus and Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu. Cleveland needs a James Posey or a Birdman to solve their problems.

I think we are still ahead of these teams.

RJ to San Antonio does not concern me.

Phoenix is having the mother of all firesales and figures to be one of the worst teams in the league next year. Their owner is to blame. I would not be surprised if we can get Amare Stoudemire and Leondra Barbosa for Ray Allen, Scalabrine, Giddens and Tony Allen..... They buy out Ray Allen and he reappears in a Boston uni about January.

We are buyers in a buyers market. The NBA is going to be horrible next year with a bunch of weak teams and maybe 6 strong teams.
