I think you absolutely do need to look at how players would match up against each other.

Well if that's the case Roy, I'm quite sure your team would have consisted of players drafted after 1979?

Why?  Some players could play in any era.  Wilt Chamberlain was a physical beast.  Russell could hold his own against anyone.  Sam Jones played a very modern type of game.  Oscar Robertson was an athletic freak.

However, certain other greats from an earlier era -- Cousy among them -- really would have struggled.  Cousy today would be an athletic, undersized PG who couldn't shoot.

Titles need to be looked at in context.  I mean, how many titles would KG or Dominique have if they were surrounded by multiple other Hall of Famers?

Not to mention teams 1 and 2 have some of the greatest Celtics of all time. Havlicek with 8 rings and Russel with 11.

Since all of these players played in different eras where the avg. height of the league was different, there were different rules, no 3pt shots, the speed of the game, and the athleticism in general. All we can do is take EACH players skillset and "physical gifts (as reported by the media, because some of the players we weren't alive to see) and compare them to that of the other players.

Would the small PGs be able to stop magic? Would Magic be able to stop the small PGs? It's a double edged sword. Would the post players from the early years be able to dominate the bigger, stronger, more athletic post players of now?

All we can do is compare the skills we know they have/had, and their heights. This game right from the get, was based on opinions. Who do you think would be the best team? Not who has the most championships, or who would win a 7 game series. It's whos team is the best. Which to me means, who causes the most matchup problems, who has the better offensive team, who has the best DEF...etc.

Cant wait to see who wins.

When I thought of this game it wasn't in terms of (incomparable) match ups but more about the player in his era and against his competition. Obviously I'm all but alone in that but what can I say? The people are speaking. That's not to say I think my team is the best because there is another team or two that I put above... Just not team 5. I almost feel like a team that consisted of:

Dwight Howard
Chris Bosh
Ron Artest
Brandon Roy
Deron Williams

would have taken some votes from people here...

So you think it's because of having newer players that makes Team 5 the favorites? Other teams have Kobe and Lebron.. Team 5 in my opinion does not have the best starting 5, but what makes team 5 so formidable is I think they have the best bench(which could have been a starting 5). That rotation is ridiculous.

Team 4.  Cowens was better than most give credit for.  He had hops and could give people trouble with quickness and hustle.  Plus, Larry Legend with Duncan in the front court with LeCrab off the bench.  Good luck to the other team's second unit.

I just don't feel like Wade or Paul belong on an "all-time list' I'm sorry. Maybe I overrate the old timers? but it's just too soon for me personally. Obviously many don't agree.

Obviously you have to PROJECT their careers. They are both young and if they can keep up their production like this for about 7-10 years. They WILL be some of the best. Wade is already in discussions for top 10 SGs of all time(plus Jordan was NOt available), and Paul is, well...you tell me. Isnt this the golden boy of the NBA who is going to avg. 20+ pts, 10+ assts, and 2.5 stls for the next couple of years? Plus that was the beauty of this game, combining old school and new school, to make the best team. And again, the only REAL flaw to this game is that the Voting is based on OPINION.

Without giving away who my team is, I would just like to remind everyone that defense and rebounding wins championships.  ;)

I also think team 2's whole team matches up perfectly well with team 5's whole team. I don't see any glaring mis-matches. Also, I think team 1's starting five matches up exceptionally well with team 5's starters.

I agree.  Team 5 is the only team where every player on the team has led the league in either assists, points, or rebounds per game.  Team 5's *bench* has won 8 scoring titles.

I think it's sour grapes to assume that the reason people are voting for team 5 is because it focuses on modern players.  In fact, it's the presence of Bob Pettit and George Gervin that really puts ESBG's team over the top for me.

You and others may have missed what I was going for here. This is not a game based on PROJECTIONS hence "all-time" (what have you done) list. It was also not supposed to be a "head to head" type scenario as it makes players like Bob Cousy and Jerry West obsolete. How can you have criteria on an NBA all-time list that makes Bob Cousy obsolete? It's absurd really. Nevertheless, this game has been totally fun and it's the first of many mini-games.

Roy you feel like Chris Paul and Dwayne Wade right now are all-time NBA players?
