Clippers Trade

I think a trade of:

Ray Allen

Rajon Rondo

Brian Scalabrine

to the Clippers for:

Baron Davis

Marcus Camby

Al Thornton or Eric Gordon

The Clippers' 2010 first rounder

This a great trade for the Celtics and gives us a real shot at numba 18. Camby is expiring and could be resigned for smaller money if we dont keep Big Baby. Baron as our starting PG. We would then start Bill Walker at the three amd PP at the two. Camby, Baby and House off the bench as 6th, 7th and 8th men.

Gordon or Thornton would shortly crack the rotation as well.

The Clippers love this because of the money savings and addition of Rondo.

That 2010 draft pick will be mucho valuable to us.

I have trouble with this trade because of Baron Davis.  He and his injury history just scare the heck out of me. He is a heck of a basketball player, and no doubt he and Paul Pierce would be incredibly happy to play together.  In bursts, he would be great, but then you just know that his injury history would crop up, and Cs would be stuck with his long contract. 

Also, I wouldn't start Bill Walker.  He has done nothing to justify starting in the league, let alone for a contender. I *would* start Eric Gordon, however. 

Davis-Gordon-Pierce-Garnett-Perkins; not a bad starting lineup.

The bench would still have a hole: backup SF.  If Grant Hill could be signed, and BBD resigned, then the first 4 players off the bench would be House, Hill, BBD and Camby.  Not a bad 9 man rotation.

But is that better than
Rondo-Allen-Pierce-Garnett-Perkins starting with
House, Hill, BBD, Scal off the bench?  Hmmm, maybe.

Edit: Also, if that Clipper pick is unprotected it could turn into John Wall.  Not bad.  Not bad at all...

I dont care too much for your suggested player rotation, but the trade makes perfect sense.
LAC kinda gave up on Baron and offered him back to GS for Magette. I doubt Rubio will want to play for the Clips, let alone the Griz.
Rondo is great, but Baron can shoot. And this gives the Clips another chance to blow up their roster and build around Rondo.
The only difference I would add would be to either throw in BBD to entice them b/c Ray and Rondo for Baron, Camby and 1st rounder is too lopsided. Add in BBD so we can get their SG Gordon and maybe bring a 3rd team in for a trade so we can get another SF or SG.

I am sure Gordon would have every opportunity to start over Walker. I am just making a 'prediction' that Walker breaks out this off season and wins the job. I also do not just assume the Clippers would let go of Gordon instead of Thornton. I could be way off base here though.

I can live with the trade of Tony Allen for Wilkins, but I think I would rather go after Travis Outlaw from the Trailblazers instead. He is a legit 6'9" SF that can play some defense. He wouldnt need much motivation if he was a rotation guy on the Celtics.

Keep in mind that the Clippers have the number one pick this year and will take Griffin. They will be happy to surround him with Kaman, Randolph, Ray Allen, Rondo and either Gordon or Thornton depending on who we take. We would not need to include Davis and it would be too complicated if we did anyway.

That 1st round pick is for the following year.

I understand your concern, but a physical would have to be in the mix on a trade like this. I just have to think that the back issue would become 'vapor' if B Diddy was suddenly a Celtic alongside Pierce, KG  and company on a championship bound team.

Just intuition, not saying he didnt have a back issue in the past or anything.

LOL.  JDub, are you talking about the same Baron Davis that is a 41% career shooter, including 37% last year?  Baron Davis cannot shoot.  He's horrible.  The difference between him and Rondo, however, is that Rondo KNOWS he can't shoot, but Baron thinks he can, which makes Baron 100% more costly to the team.  Also, Rondo is a 48% career shooter, including > 50% last year, so despite his lack of an outside shot, his driving ability more than makes up for it.  Baron is fat and not nearly as quick - one of my least favorite NBA players.  (My least favorite is his black hole of a teammate in Zach Randolph).

He's younger, has a significantly higher PER, and is much more efficient.

The only hyperbole that is going on here is the belief that Baron Davis is close to Rondo.

Eric Gordon might be interesting, but Thornton isn't good enough to even remotely consider this deal.
