While tinkering has it's "perks", I haven't seen too many realistic deals where we are talking about trades that make us better than having Allen on this team.

Well maybe not for the short term. The long term might be different though

With Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce getting older, the long term doesn't look all that promising until a flat out reconstruction of the team.

You can tinker.  I'd rather see us find a creative way to get Corey Maggette.

If we are to keep Ray I'd like to see a very good wing player coming off the bench. This is because if we are to keep him we need to extend his career. The best way to extend his career is to get a great bench player who can cut down the minutes of Pierce and Allen with only a limited dropoff. Maggette is such a player.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Didn't see the merged message in Celtics Talk.   Please move this there.

Just as a heads up, there's a brief blurb on Yahoo about Ray:

Quote
Celtics guard Ray Allen(notes) has expressed a desire for a contract extension, league executives say, but that isn’t happening in Boston

No sense of who the source, if any, would be.
