http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/jun/18/more-questions-than-answers/Have the Griz tried to pry away to No. 1 overall pick from the Clippers?
Most definitely. Word on the street is that the Clippers aren't entertaining any discussions without a suitor's willingness to take Baron Davis off their hands. It's a hefty price to acquire the No. 1 overall pick -- Davis has major attitude, and five years with more than $53 million left on his deal. Don't expect the Griz to meet that demand.
So if it's true that they would trade the # 1 pick to get rid of baron davis' contract then the celtics could definitely make a strong offer.
Bos sends: Rondo
BBD( S+T 4 MIL PER YEAR)
Scal ( 3 MIL Expiring)
TA (2.5 MIL Expiring)
Walker or future 1st
I would even consider trading Perk to make the deal happen, thats how good I think Griffen is going to be. Maybe the Celtics could even get Kaman back in the trade as the Clippers would be saving 5 MIL a year in the difference between Perks and Kaman's contracts.
LAC sends: Baron Davis
# 1 Pick
Why for Boston:
They get a legit championship caliber PG in return. Sure he is overpaid, but the kid can still play at a very high level. He has playoff experience and isn't affraid to take and make big shot. His supposed attitude problems might tear a young team apart, but there is no way he is going to go into a locker room with 3 future HOF players and disrupt the chemistry of a contending team.
They also get the # 1 pick and a possible franchise player in Griffen. He is a athletic beast already and with KG in his ear every day it will make him into a stud
Boston Roster 2009 - 10PG: Davis / Marbury( VET MIN)
SG: Ray / House
SF: PP / Grant Hill ( VET MIN)
PF: KG / Griffen
C: Perk or Zaza* or Gortat( MLE)* / Vet FA
* = only if Perk is traded.
Why for LACThey get rid of Baron's contract which they have been trying to move the last 2 years. They also get a few young prospects in return in BBD + Perk (if it is necessary to make the trade happen)
They also get Rondo who likely would be the #2 Pick if he was in the draft this year. He is a proven young PG who has a championship to fill Baron Davis' role. He would be a very good young leader for the Clippers and make a great backcourt along with Eric Gordon for the next 10+ years
Clippers Roster 2009-10PG: Rondo / VET FA
SG: Gordon / VET FA
SF: Thorton / VET FA
PF: Randolph / BBD
C: Kaman / Camby
