Memphis is trading the #2 and serious cap relief in this scenario, not just the #2.
Memphis is well under the cap, why would they want more relief?

I think you missunderstood - Memphis is trading serious cap relief and the #2 for Devin Harris.

The cap relief is an asset going from Memphis to NJ - NJ would have a $25 million dollar payroll next summer if this went through. Apparently they are having trouble moving Carter.
That is what I get for posting quickly at work.

Well that and my managers chewing me the out for an hour.....

The #2 pick is a lot more valuable than Devin Harris.

Great trade for NJ if they could convince the Grizzlies to do it.
I have to concur with everyone else. A very good young veteran point guard on a reasonable contract is much more valuable than the #2 pick in this draft.

Now if it talent like Oden/Durant or LeBron/*cough*Darko/Melo/Wade/Bosh then the pick would be worth more.

I just don't see this draft as having that elite talent level.

1-5 -- Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Tony Parker, Chauncey Billups, Rajon Rondo

Not only are you wrong about Harris, you're wrong about Rose, too. ;)
Where do you have Rose, Roy?

I have Rose pretty much tied with Rondo, somewhere in the second tier (6-10 range) right now.  I think Rose will end up being the third best PG in the league, though, behind only Paul and Williams.
I presume you agree with the other four of my top five point guards. Who would be your fifth guy? Ahead of Rondo? Steve Nash?

I think Rose will shoot up that list too, excellent prospect. However, in terms of current ability, I don't think he's a top 10 point guard yet.

Right now, yes, I'd rank Nash ahead of Rondo, Rose, and Harris.  I know that isn't a popular viewpoint, but I think his amazing offensive efficiency makes up for his less than stellar defense.
I think Nash and Rondo are close, but Rondo's defense is so much better I can't put him above Rajon.

I would put Harris in the top ten though. Rose isn't there yet though Roy. He looks like he will be, but for now he's still too young and up and down.

Kind of like Rondo is....

Rondo's defense is much better than Nash's, but Nash's offense is much better than Rondo's.  Nash is a 50/40/90 guy who still averages more assists than Rondo.  Nash scores more, gets more assists, and is much, much more efficient.  To me, that makes up for whatever defensive advantage that Rondo has.  Nash is getting old, but he's still an amazing point guard.  People (not you) who think he's "washed up" are completely off base.

(Also, Rondo's defense is a bit overrated, I think.  He still has trouble staying in front of his man, and gambles too much.  He has the defensive tools to be a lock down defender, but he's only shown that in spurts.  Derrick Rose schooled him in Game 1 of the Chicago series.)

Rondo was on KISS 108 FM yesterday. They asked him about the trade rumors, and where he heard he might be going. In addition to Sacramento and Phoenix, he mentioned New Jersey, which makes me wonder if Rondo may be involved in this Harris-Memphis deal.
