Obviously this guy has not panned out yet, and is therefore on the way to making me wrong about him.  Am I all the way wrong yet?

Has he become a defensive stud without me knowing it?  Is he an elite defender at the 3?  Can we trade for him and make him our third SF behind Pierce and player X?

New Wolves GM Kahn has certainly been connected to a lot of rumors heading into the draft. He's definitely looking to put his own mark on the team, and I would not be surprised to see some major reshuffling of that Wolves roster in the next few months.

I don't know what they think of Brewer, but I would definitely be interested in him for the right price: TA, Giddens, Pruitt, future picks, etc.

I think he was a case of unwarranted hype, and has been hurt because of it.  I feel like if teams didn't reach for him, because he happened to play for a great college team, he went in the late first round to early second, where he belonged, he would have come in as a bit more of an unknown, and would be looked at as an up and coming prospect right now, who can defend, but is still raw offensively.  Unfortunately, he came in as a super-hyped player who people fell in love with for being an average college player on a great team, and he had no chance to live up to expectations.

I also think some of the hype may have went to his head, and made him a little less hungry than he may have been if he hadn't gone so high.

Yea, i thought he was going to be the best player coming out of those florida teams, its a shame.  He did suffer the knee injury though, so its not all on him.

A lot of the defensive guys take a bit longer to bloom (e.g. Posey and Bowen) so I think there is hope. Needs a 3pt shot though or he'll be useless on offense.

Intriguing young guy; however, with three other wings with potential who have yet to live up to expectations, I don't want him.  That is, of course, unless the Wolves would want TA or Giddens for him; however, I don't see that happening.

Corey Brewer is terrible and is the classic, "played 5 good tournament games hype player".  When he was drafted so high I just laughed.

This is ridiculous. Just because MIN reached for Brewer at #7 doesn't mean that he's "terrible" and "played 5 good tourney games".

I live in Gainesville so I saw Brewer quite a bit in college. Brewer was a terrific college defender, there is no way U of Florida wins back-to-back titles without him.

IMO, he's gonna develop into a Posey/Moon type with an OK offensive game, but who can play a vital role on a title team.

He's coming back from a blown ACL, but pre-injury he was already better than Allen or Giddens, if for no other reason than their talent is about equal but he's a textbook TEAM PLAYER instead of a head case.

I don't think he fits into MIN long-term plans at this point and I'm guessing that with their #6 pick, Foye, Miller, and Carney, MIN could be convinced to move Brewer. I'd LOVE for the Celtics to buy low on him. Otherwise I don't think MIN offers him an extension and some other team is gonna get him nice and cheap.

Useless? that seems a bit over-the-top. Brewer's game at UF was never based on 3-point shooting, but on slashing and filling the wing on the break.

I think the notion that every guard and wing MUST have a 3-point shot is misguided. Brewer can shoot even if he doesn't have 3-pt range. But his career is gonna be built on defense in the NBA.

I wonder how he's progressing from that blown ACL. Will he lose a step?

I agree with GC though, Brewer was on track to have a career in the NBA. Players who can scrap, hustle, and play defense are much more valuable to teams than their stats might indicate.

Brewer is a very good defender but not an elite one, yet.

It's his jump shot. He needs a jump shot in order to take his game to the next level, because then he can become a Battier type of player. Nice rebounder. Can handle the ball, good passer. There's a lot to like.

He'd look a lot better in an offense like the Lakers, like Ariza did, where his cutting would have more value and his jump shot would be less of an immediate issue.

I think the recent severe injury he suffered, and the lack of a jump shot, makes him a bad target in a trade for now. Too much uncertainty for the Celtics. I don't think the C's have the trade assets to get it done either.

Yeah, I thought we might be able to offer them some payroll relief in exchange for Brewer, but Minnesota has done a good job of clearing long term contracts off their books. Big Al is the only non-rookie contract (options or qualifying offers) on their books after this coming season.

The problem is that people overestimated his offensive skill set.  This guy projects as a Stacey Augmon/Bruce Bowen type player.   Not much in terms of offense, but gives you enough defense to overlook how bad he is offensively.

He's nowhere near Battier in any way, shape, or form.

More like a Trevor Ariza than a Shane Battier, albeit with more guard skills.
