I'm going to try and lump some PG's together via random categories, sort of like the game called Set.  But I'm not going that deep.

Let's assume Mike Conley will become as good as Augustin and Felton, so there's a group, pure points, young, not stars yet, etc....

Group #1:  Augustin, Felton, Conley, ?

In another group I'll combine lesser PG's who have great shots, in other words combo guards who might or might not be all that good.

Group #2:  Devin Harris (best of group), Monta Ellis, House, Barbosa, Bayless, Stephen Curry,
                    Pruitt, ?

Mainly for this thread I'm interested in comparing group #1 to the following pure PG's from the upcoming draft:

Flynn, Jennings, Teague, Holiday, Maynor, Lawson

I'm assuming Lawson will most quickly enter Group#1.
But which of these other pure points will surpass group#1?
Which, if any, will end up in Group#2? (in other words they're not pure PG's)

I left out Rubio, who seems for now to be considered a more elite PG, like Rondo and the next tier up....

  • Rondo = Good
I think you really underrate Devin Harris by putting him in the second group.  Barbosa is also a step above those guys.

Harris and Pruitt in the same group?

You might want to rethink your rankings.

they are not ranked by quality.  I did rank the first group in terms of similar quality, but didn't for second group, confusing obviously....

Second group ranked only by type of guard.....

"lesser PG's who have great shots, in other words combo guards who might or might not be all that good."

I don't think you can call Devin Harris a "lesser point guard."  He's a scoring PG to be sure, but he is on a team where there's only one other main scoring option (VC), and he can still run the offense well.

Also, I don't think there's any "might or might not be" with Devin Harris.  He is good.

Devin harris and pruitt aren't the same kind of guard though.

Ones an extermly talented offensive player, the other is a bench project who is wasting away.

Then I guess calling Devin Harris a combo or tweener is incorrect.  Didn't mean to imply he isn't a good player.

Also not knocking combo guards in general.  Heinrich is awfully good, for example.

What I think is interesting in fact is that in this draft the number of "pure" points outnumbers the # of combo type PG's, who are debatable in terms of running a team.  While Harris is undoubtedly a great player in general, as was Marbury, I think there is a debate to be had about his abilities running a team when compared to more pure point guards who are clearly excellent passers or perhaps pass first guards....

Combo:  Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry, Toney Douglas, Holiday, more?
Pure:       Rubio, Jennings, Flynn, Maynor, Lawson, Teague, Jerrells, Mills, Rice, Collison, Calathes (combo?), McNeal

Well, nevermind.  Just odd to have so many PURE points in one draft....

Barbosa's not a point guard. and Eddie House? Steph Curry's more of an inbetweener
