we need a solid bigman, not a "potential" or "unproven" one.  didnt we learn from the POB experiment?!
How can you compare Darko and POB? Darko has been a regular rotation guy for a while now. The reason he got the contract he currently has was due to competent play in Orlando. POB has never done that.

I'll pass. I want more than a career failure for what few assets we have.

  Well put.
If he had been drafted in the second round, I doubt we would see such harsh comments.

  • Rondo = Good
Well, sure the guy is a huge bust, but to a certain extent you have to blame the guys who drafted him so high.  If he's still been a decent rotation guy in the NBA, even if he didn't live up to his potential, you can't brand him as totally worthless.

Good trade -- I think Memphis only do it if they select Thabeet in the draft, otherwise I think they'd rather hold onto Darko.
I agree. Darko's contract runs out after next year just like TA and Scala and I think he helps us more, but I'm not sure I see Memphis doing it. They just give up a decent young backup big man and get two blah players. Scala has some value especially for them, but I don't think they do it unless they go for Thabeet, and more so if they pick other bigs with their other picks

Darko is HORRIBLE. Send Memphis is known for lopsided trades, lets see if we could get Marc Gasol for Tony Allen or Scalabrine.

He's actually been quite good of the bench in his role of defensive center. He's certainly not worth the money he makes, due to his limited offensive game, but he's a good defensive rotation player.

has been for awhile now, I'd do this trade, he'd be a fine backup for perk, and anything we can get for TA is a bonus, he's awful.

I would do this trade. Darko is a late bloomer who will be a solid backup center in this league.

I just got a Croatian English dictionary and I finally fully understand:

Darko Milicic is Croatian for "Gerald Green"

your dictionary must have translation errors, Darko gives effort on the court and plays good defense, 2 things Gerald will never be accused of doing on his way to an illustrious AND1 street ball career.

Yes, I like the trade.  We would be giving up garbage for someone who should be a solid rotation player off the bench.

I was referring to the fact that people on this board are obsessed with him, and that he sucks. Sorry for the confusion. I'm going to Mauritius.

People on the board are not obsessed with him - he would have been a good FA pickup a few years back, but Mem got him just over the MLE. We ended up with Posey and the rest is good history. But he does come up from time to time because he's a big man that would backup Perk nicely and actually could be acquired. Where as Al Jefferson thread is fun because of Jefferson's talents: but its not probable.

If he's available - and if MEM is considering Thabeet he must be - he'd be a very good backup. In fact I posted a similar thread: http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=28520.0

He's no Miki Moore or OBlount, if he'd been on the team this year, he'd have been seeing minutes in the playoffs and not buried on the bench. I see this as a later in the offseason trade and we'd probably have to send cash to pay for Scal's buyout. (And they'd probably let Pruitt walk rather than picking up his option - Pruitt is not a good 3pt shooter, if he were he'd be useful.)

He is not a starter. Remember what was our biggest problem this past season? Is our lack or real depth at the 4 & 5. Darko is a defensive bigman, and he is still fairly young will turn 24 this month. Lets be realistic TA & Scal will not get you a big name. Darko is our best option at backup center. And his contract expires in 2010.

If we can do this trade & sign Antiono Mcdyess. We can then move on to other things.

Darko has some skills, block shots is the best of them. However, he is a walking injury.

The Celtics don't need projects, they need players that will help them land #18 next year.

No Thanks.

what better realistic bench player will you be landing for scal and TA's contracts then? This might be the first realistic trade for those two's 7 mill in expiring contracts ive seen that nets us a decent bench upgrade ive seen. most of the trades assume a team will fall all over it self to unload its best bench players for our trash. This makes sense for memphis and us, as they have expressed an issue in drafting a man who plays darko's position, and thus he is wasted space to them.

Or do you think TA is a good bench player? He's a overrated defensive player who shoots WORSE than rondo. Which is amazing in its own right when you think about it (TP to roy for that data in another post).

now, I would like to keep scal for the bench, but he makes to much for his skill set, and that makes his expiring contract attractive trade piece to pair with TA's corpse.
