I know: in these days it's normal to talk about trades, and talk about the draft, then talk about trades, and finally some talk about possible trades. But don't you think our starting five is just fine (with KG healthy) and we should just concentrate on our bench? For example: Billy Walker and JR Giddens are good. No question about that. We all saw what Billy can do (before Doc took him out of the rotation) and some of us watched JR on the D-League. JR was the most mature, and active and "all-around" player on that Flash team that got to the Finals. He's not a future superstar, but the kid can play, right?

So, IMO the most important person in our organization will be Doc, not Danny. Minutes can develop this guys into very effective back-ups (for Paul and Ray, respectively). Can this jeopordize our win-now policy? I don't think so.

With time on the court, sure. However, in these times of "win now", their development is not exactly going to be on the fast track due to priorities.  Sorry fellas.

Giddens no. He put up nice stats in the d-league, but that doesn't mean much. The fact that he spent 5 years in college and wasn't able to contribute doesn't inspire any confidence in him.

Walker I think has some potential and could be a 9-10th man off the bench for us next year. Depends on how much work he puts in during the summer, but I am optimistic that he will be a contributor for us next year unless he goes in a trade.

Can they?  Sure.  Can we count on them to?  No way.

Anything you get from those guys needs to be treated as a bonus, which means you need to find a primary backup wing.

on a scale of 1 to 10, my confidence in Walker is a 5 and my confidence in Giddens is a 3

those numbers are for next year only

for future productivity, Walker goes up to a 7

I think walker deserved some time this past season and I feel he can help us at sf next year.  Are there relatively cheap vets that can do more? yes
I however like walkers drive and attitude and athleticism.
giddens i don't see being on the team next year unless he makes a big jump, he honestly looked very lost and d league means nothing

These guys couldn't get minutes over Mikki, Scala, Marbury, and TA. Not even when both KG and Powe were hurt. So I have my doubts

The problem is we have no idea if they will even be average.

Doc must have loved that, after he's talked repeatedly about the need for a veteran 3.

that was exactly my thought. considering he was offered up in a trade, i'd imagine danny's feeling doc more than spears...

If they are going out and getting a legit backup SG, then I am fine with it.  I am perfectly fine with Walker being the 4th wing (as long as the 3rd wing is not already on the team), because come playoff time, you don't need to count too much on a guy like that for anything more than spot minutes.

I'd like to see Walker get roughly 10 minutes a game during the regular season, maybe a few more if he plays better than expected.  Giddens...I think other people have explained why he's probably a no-go, but who knows.

Then there's Pruitt...if he's even on the team I think he'll need to show some great worth ethic and drastic improvement over the summer or else he's pretty much done here.

In the playoffs, I hope we aren't in a situation where we need to play either Walker or Giddens at all.

I should add I'm all for walker getting sf minutes that have been, in the past, given to tony allen.  Better height, less turnovers and drives to the hoop as well, seems to have a better head on his shoulders.
