One can't depend on them, not after they offered so little as rookies ... not while the team is a legitimate title contender.

I want to see the Celtics sign two reliable wings to play ahead of them and come off the bench for next season.

If Walker and/or Giddens are truly good enough, then they'll be able to beat out those veterans for those minutes. No need to give them minutes they don't deserve.

These guys couldn't get minutes over Mikki, Scala, Marbury, and TA. Not even when both KG and Powe were hurt. So I have my doubts

Although Mikki and Marbury were given minutes in spite of the fact that they didn't produce.

With time on the court, sure. However, in these times of "win now", their development is not exactly going to be on the fast track due to priorities.  Sorry fellas.

I completely agree. The goal is to WIN NOW as opposed to developing prospects. If we can do both at the same time, GREAT, but if not the development of our prospects take a back seat to WINNING NOW.

IMO Billy Walker can play while the jury is still out on Giddens.

Gabe's probably done (the DUI charge didn't help) but I can't understand the criticism about JR's and even Billy's rookie seasons. How many minutes have they played? Wasn't Billy a better option than Boy Boy Tony Allen? And I've watched JR play. He was playing so hard in crappy D-League that I almost thought he was happy to be there. Blame Doc. I'm with BOTH of them.

And remember: the same GM that drafted Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Leon Powe, Big Baby, etc., drafted JR before Billy...

Bill Walker should have been playing this year.  I liked the energy and explosion to the basket he showed.

Giddens?   Who knows.

Bill Walker should have been playing down the stretch because he could have provided serious depth in the playoffs. This year i expect him to come in and really show what he's got... esspecially with TA gone.

JR has alot of tools, He's a high flyer that hasn't had an ACL surgery, he's a good teammate due to his issues earlier in college, and he's an over the top rebounder. Put this kid on the second/third unit and he's the type of guy that will scrap to keep you in the game. Along with Walker he can really give us a punch at the reserve spot, out with Slow Scal and a Physically deminished TA... in with these guys.

I third that notion.  Let any potential they have come as a pleasant surprise.  Ainge got burned badly enough this year trying to rely on young players.

Yes Walker is a better long range solution than TA at SF; but that is not saying much. He is smaller that I thought and looks to be about the same height as giddens who is a 2. We still need a solid 6'-8" winger and Walker will never be able to fit that "bill" (sorry - just happened).

The problem with saying they will play if they earn the minutes is Doc seems more likely to run his all stars into the ground than play rookies. So what do they have to do to earn minutes, beat out our all stars? Doc was clearly more comfortable playing PP and Ray but who wouldn't be? I feel like next year in order to prolong Allen and Pierce's careers Walker needs to play some with the starters, where he is only expected to hustle and play defense anything more is a bonus.
I'm not sure how coherent that was but I'm just trying to say that Doc needs to give them or other wings more minutes to keep Ray and Pierce fresh regardless of if they've "earned" it.

it's not about how tall you ARE its about how tall you play. BBD was our best backup big for the playoffs and i don't think he's even 6'8"

The short answer to the question posed on this thread is "no."  Walker has some potential, but I see little or no hope for Giddens, especially since he's already 24 years old.

Yes PP plays big for someone who is 6'-6 or 7"; but with walker you are still giving up inches at a time when you could have Turkolo or Odom raining three's.
Walker is strong enough to muscle players; but sure that will work against Lebron.

Well, I don't think so. Doc's a bit antique about rookies, he simply will not play them the time they deserve. He will prefer a washed up veteran than a promising, athletic young player. Even in Big Al's first years Doc was recluctant to play him.
