Byron Scott said General Manager Jeff Bower is exploring all options in regards to the Hornets' 21st overall pick.

The Hornets are looking to take the best available player regardless of position.

"I think if somebody comes with an unbelievable offer or tries to buy the pick from us, then obviously we have to take a look at that," Scott said.

The Hornets sold their pick in 2008 to Portland.

If we could buy our way into the first round who do people want I'll give a list of 5 that could be around for 21.
1. Dejuan Blair.
2. BJ Mullens
3. Sam Young
4. Chase Budinger
5. Jeff Teague
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

  • Rondo = Good
From that list, Blair, Young, or Teague sound good to me (in that order of preference).

Blair is another undersized power forward (as if we don't have enough already) but he was fantastic in college and is great in post offense which is something we need with Powe injured.

Young is supposedly a prospective defensive stopper at the wing and I would not mind at all having one of those for the future.

I'd Wanna take Lawson to groom as a back up or Dajuan Summers. I see Sumemrs being a young Antoine Walker type player. Before he got fat and decided to chuck threes all day

Teague, Blair, and Budinger will all probably be gone by then

I would be all about Eric Maynor to play backup point if he's still around at 21.

I love Teague and Young... this is a super deep draft but the scouts don't seem to think so. I don't get it. Not much at the top but 5-25 is stacked...

This is a draft I would love to have 3 picks in the mid to late first round.

Budinger. I think he could be the guy we were missing at the 2 spot last season.

No question you take Mullens if he is on the board.  Legitimate center size, very athletic, hard worker, but is incredibly raw.  Mullens is exactly the type of player you should be taking at 21, a guy that may be a bust, but could also end up an all star caliber player.

I'd like to see Budinger as well. I think he'll be around. Mullins apparently has a verbal agreement with NJ at 16.

If I had to choose between these guys I would go with: 1) Young 2) Teague 3) Blair 4) Mullens and 5) Budinger.

However, I would prefer that if Boston acquired this pick to then trade it for a later first round pick (like around 28) as well as an additional second round pick and select Derrick Brown (Xavier), Heytvelt (Gonzaga) and another big with their late second round pick.

As a native of Ohio who watched OSU games on a regular basis, I can say that while Mullens is big, he is incredibly soft. I think KG would make this guy suicidal by the second week of training camp with his intensity!! But I could be wrong...maybe KG could make him more determined and a better player, but weren't we saying that about POB at the beginning of the season?

Isn't NJ picking at #11?
In any case, it would be an interesting pick for NJ, since they have so many other F/C prospects (Sean Williams, Josh Boone, Ryan Anderson, Brook Lopez).

I think all the players listed by the OP look good.  I would probably rank them: Teague, Blair, Mullens, Budinger, Young.  I don't know enough about the players though.  I am concerned about the "bust" potential of Mullens -- another POB?

there is a difference between soft and weak.  mullens is weak, he is not soft.

You are one of the first people to say this draft is deep, and I completely agree. I think it is just a good draft. With all the talk of us trading into the top 5 it made me realize how many great prospects there will be.
I think Harden, Thabeet, Rubio, and Griffin will all be stars. I think Blair, Buddinger, Young, Brandon Jennings and Flynn will alll be quality starters.
I think that Hill, Henderson, Curry and Lawson will be somewhere in between. This is just with my knowledge of the draft I'm sure there are more real good prospects that I just don't know about.

I have a feeling that if Blair or Hansbrough are on the board when #21 comes around, the C's will end up buying it.

If the C's go after a vet big man with the MLE, they would then basically be looking for someone to be their 4th big man until Powe comes back.  So if the choice comes down to paying Davis to stay with 6th man money to be a 10th man, or paying $3 million (to buy the pick) plus the salary of a late first rounder for Blair to be your 6th man, Blair just makes a ton more sense.

I don't think Blair is going to be as good as Davis, but I think he could more than do the job, and at a much cheaper rate.

Now, if they are looking for someone to be the first big off the bench, they would need to pay Davis, but since I think they will be targetting other veterans for that role, there is no need to overpay a depth player.
